Oral Dialogue Part I Strategies

Do not give just yes/no responses Do not restate all or essential parts of what the

teacher has just said. “Hello” and “How are you?” may serve to initiate a

conversation but can not qualify for credit. Each utterance must be a complex idea that can be

prepared by adding… but, because, or by asking a question. ALWAYS SAY 2 CLAUSES!

Do not read questions or answers while the teacher is reading the paragraph.

Focus on key words which will lead you to the correct answer.

Eliminate the answers that you do not hear. Do not focus on dates and names. Do not try to translate as the teacher is reading. Never leave a blank answer… give it your best

guess.

possible. BE SURE you accomplish the PURPOSE. Do NOT use dialogue. Use scrap to write a draft first. Then proofread!

geht’s?” or some form of it if you have seen the person recently.

Be consistent with whom you address.

Formal - start with:Liebe(r)End with: Ihr(e) - Never use DU if it’s a

formal letter.

If you’re writing to an INFORMAL person,open with: Liebe(r ) name,close with:

dein name (you’re male) deine name (you’re female) If you’re writing to TWO

informal people, start with: Liebe x, Lieber y, Use the ihr form of address

throughout.

Writing..Picture Story

Write out all numbers. NO dialogue. Write a story about the picture, not a

description. Mention: 1) the day, 2) the weather 3) what

the action is, 4) the “problem” 5) the solution to the problem & 6) how it ends.

Be sure to have organized your story - it must have transitions and an opening and a clear ending.

Writing grading rubric: 5 criteria to meet (+ word count) - scored from 1-4

1. Purpose - include as many details as possible to develop the task

2. Organization - sequencing vocabulary, clear beginning, middle, end, PARAGRAPHING

3. Vocabulary - show your broad knowledge!4. Structure - (grammar) - subject/verb

agreement, tenses controlled, noun/adjective agreement, word order, spelling.

You must have 100 words. Names of people & numbers do not count.

Places and brand names ONLY from the culture count.
