Fall is here and temperatures are finally cooling down! The turn in weather typically sets the trend to use our boats less; this is not good for our vessels. Beaches Marine Service Department strongly suggests that you run your boat regularly. If you are unable to get that engine running on a regular basis the Detailing Department offers a Run and Rinse program to fire up the engines, check all fluids, batteries, wash & chamois the vessel and report back any issues that the vessel is having. As we’ve been preaching all year, if you have filled up your engine with fuel from the street pump and potentially have ethanol fuel sitting in an idle motor serious damage can occur. Take care of your valuable possession by using non ethanol fuel or a fuel treatment sold in the Dock Box. This is also a good time to start considering your end of the season service. For any repair needs, call our Service Department at 904-694-2010.—Denise Nordin

Notes from the Staff:
Alice Arnott, Dock House – Thanks for everyone’s help in getting items stowed away and securing boats for Hurricane Irene. Let’s try to keep the docks clear of personal items which may become flying weapons even in our afternoon pop up thunderstorms. Remember to check in with the fuel dock as you are passing by to dock on our courtesy dock for enjoying our two fine restaurants. It will save you a long walk back to the dock house to sign in. If we can be of any help to you please feel free to call us at 694-2098 or hail us on Channel 16.

August Tiki Hut Party
I touched on ships logs last month and then got to thinking about how many people are not using them. A ships log can be used for a number of differing purposes. You may wish to record in it the times that you change the filters on the engine or when you replace the zincs. You may use a log as a diary to record events and impressions of places you visit. But the main use of a log is to record information concerning the vessels navigation. For us weekend boaters the maintenance logs are going to be the most important. As Lisa and I prepare for our trip to the Bahamas in November, Aloft’s maintenance log book will come in handy! Looking at my perfectly painted and rust free (so I thought) exhaust manifold I see a crack!! AURG! I pulled out the trusty log book out and on page 652 I see I replaced it NINE years ago! Most of us (myself included) think…’I just changed that thing last year’! So do your prized boat a favor and keep a maintenance log for you’re perfectly running engine and when you get to your favorite spot that’s the time to pull out the diary to record events and impressions!

Focus on the Details John Clark
The end of summer temperatures should be upon us very soon... Time to catch up on all of the little things that have been put off...It is a great time to get that coat of wax on. The boat has been beat up all summer long by heat and UV rays and it is time to protect it (especially those darker colored hulls). Always use a good quality wax; it’s not worth saving five or ten dollars when it's your boats best protection against the sun.
Another nice project, since things are cooling down, is a good bilge / engine room clean. Not only does it help keep your interior smelling better, it will help you find any leaks in the future. Remember to dispose of bilge waste properly; don't let it pump out into the marina. You pay an environmental fee each month, so use our oil, battery and filter disposal area!
Of course the Detailing Department at Beach Marine will be happy to service any of your needs. Feel free to call me, John Clark at 694-2071 with any questions, a quote, or even advice.
