REGAL POINTE NEWSLETTER Volume 3, Issue 9 March 3, 2010
Shelley Topf, Newsletter Editor [email protected]
Note from Social Committee:
I would like to thank all the people who have hosted the
last few events. They were so much fun! The Soup
Cook off was exciting, thanks to the “Regal Pointe
Rental Nation”. They had a total of 15 soups to try. They
had prizes for 1st, 2
nd, and 3
rd. Hope to see you at the
Chili Cook off on March 10 at 5:30 PM. A sign up sheet
will be posted asking you what you can bring.
I would like to thank everyone who came to the dance.
Deb was excellent as always. She will be singing at the
Farewell Dinner on March 13 at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $5
per person and I will be selling them at all upcoming
events or just email me and I will drop them off to you.
You need to sign up to bring an appetizer or dessert.
Don’t forget the community yard sale on March 13 from
8:00- 1:00 PM.
A big thank you goes to Georgia for doing a great job
last month at Card Bingo. The next one planned is
March 17th at 7 PM. We will play the same amount of
games. We will be selling ice cream at intermission. If
interested in helping me, please let me know.
We are having problems with the trash can. People are
putting glass bottles in there. If you host an event,
please remember to take the trash with you. If you leave
and people are still there, ask them to take any trash
with them. We do not want anyone else to get hurt.
Thanks,
Sue
Sunshine Fund
We will be having another yard sale on March 13 from 8
AM to noon. If you have anything to donate please let
Sue know.
Thanks!

Community Website
Joan Leah has developed a community web site
which can be used to host information about our
community from social events to business meeting
information. This site is no cost to the community.
She has reached out to Joe Golden who has agreed
to share any common information from Osprey such
as Deer Creek Events. The web address is:
http://regalpointeatdeercreek.yolasite.com/
Please send any input/ideas directly to Joan. Her
email address is [email protected]
Regal Pointe Health Club We're up and running with the Health Club. We
meet each Thurs morning at 9:30 in our clubhouse.
We welcome healthy tips from anyone who would
like to be a part of our club. Come join us to see
what's happening - you just might like it!!
Last Thursday, Jerry Miller who talked about gout.
We had 20+ in attendance and were given some
valuable information. Some men attended and they
seem to enjoy it. Sorry some of you could not be
present.
We will NOT have a meeting this Thurs. morning
(3/4) because of the HO meeting at 10:00.
Plan to attend on the 11th. Kathy Garchinsky will
be talking about the vegetarian diet. We look
forward to hearing about this, as many of us are
very interested in the vegetarian way of eating.
The focus of this group is to discuss ways to live a
healthier lifestyle (exercise, better eating habits,
losing weight, etc). This program will be class
participation with everyone sharing their
experiences.
I look forward to seeing everybody!!
Thanks,
Gerrie Samples

Joan Leah’s Pool Exercise Class We have class every Mon, Wed, and Fri at 8 AM.
Please bring a noodle with you for the class. We have
some, but not always enough for everyone. We do
class all season unless the temperature is below 60
degrees. Hope you will come and join us!
Military Donations We have a container down at the clubhouse for
donations. Gerrie is going to sent it out in March to the
servicemen. If you have a loved one overseas in the
military, please send Sue Barlow or Gerrie Samples
their names and addresses so they can receive a box
of goodies.
Please drop off anything you can for the boxes. We
already sent out 15 boxes and would like to send out a
whole lot more. Gerrie would like to send the boxes
out in March.
Thanks!!
Wii Bowling Open to everyone!!! 4 PM. every Tuesday afternoon.
Come join us at the clubhouse! We really have a
great time and lots of laughs!!
Georgia and Howard Harris & Joan and Bob Leah
Pool Committee Please remember to cover the pool at night when you
leave. The heater is on so we need to keep the
cover on at night!!
We replaced 2 umbrellas this summer. Please
remember to close them when you leave. Deer Creek
is not going to keep replacing them. They will remove
them like they did in other communities.
Regal Eagles The Regal Eagles have tee time on Mondays starting
at 10 AM. League play is $30 for non-members. We
play every Monday at 10 AM, which is the time for the
1st Tee for the Regal Eagles. We meet in the parking
lot between 9:30 and 9:45 to get signed in and have
the first group ready to go at 10 AM.
We pick up the sign up sheet, which is in our
clubhouse, on Saturday night as we have to turn it in
to the Pro Shop on Sunday. Make sure you sign up
in plenty of time for us to gather the sheet!! See you
on Mondays!!
Missing DVDs from the clubhouse One of our neighbors has been gracious enough to
put some new DVDs in our clubhouse for us to
borrow and RETURN!! There are presently about 50
DVDs that have not been returned to our library so
others can enjoy the movie. Please be more
considerate and return the DVDs as soon as you are
done viewing them.
Thank you!

Recycle and Be Green Since Regal Pointe is no longer saving pop cans under
the stairway of the Clubhouse, we need to let people know
that behind the Main Clubhouse there is a large “cage”
where aluminum cans are collected. However, we are still
collecting pop can tabs in our dining room on top of the ice
maker. We collected the pop can tabs and brought them
to McDonalds for the Ronald McDonald House. Toni
Miner, who is the manager of the McDonald’s across from
the Haines City Walmart, was not there but the gal who
took them made a note for Toni.
To recycle our newspapers, there is a large red dumpster
behind the Main Clubhouse for drop off. Please do not
put them in plastic or brown paper bag when you place
them in that dumpster
.
Scrapbook We are still looking for someone to take over the scrap
book from Evelyn McClellan. She is more than willing to
assist the new person in getting started with her
willingness to help and a ready smile!! Evelyn has done a
beautiful job with the books and we have so many great
memories of our events captured on paper!! We really
need to get going in finding a replacement! C’mon folks,
we have some awesome crafty type people out
there….put together a committee so it isn’t just one
person’s responsibility!

Regal Pointe Computer Class The Computer Club meeting will take place on the 3
rd
Thursday of the month through April, 2010. It will be from
2:00- 3:00 PM at the clubhouse.
We would like to get input from people on topics they
would like to see covered and are also looking for
speakers with skills on key topics such as Twitter, Face
Book, etc. Please send any ideas to Joan Leah at
[email protected]. See you there!!
Creative Cards Workshop Join your Deer Creek neighbors for several hours of
creative fun. Every Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Regal
Pointe Clubhouse, a workshop making greeting cards will
be held. Two cards that you can send to family or friends
will be made at every workshop. All types of cards:
Birthday, Anniversary, Get Well, Sympathy, Thinking Of
You, etc. as well as holiday cards will be made. Stamping
techniques accented with chalks, watercolor pencils and
crayons, colored pens, embossing and many types of
enhancements will be used. This is a “user-friendly” class
so even if you think you aren’t crafty, Gwen can help you
become creative! The cost is $5 per workshop. Sign-up
sheet is in the RP Clubhouse on the bulletin board or call
Gwen DeBandi @ 863-353-8695 or 863-585-4343 to
reserve your place.

Regal Pointe Riders FMCA Club News The next club meeting will be in the clubhouse on March
12 at 7 PM. Shelley Topf was able to secure a speaker
from Fantasy RV Tours. We have asked her to speak on
why go with a tour versus going on your own, how a tour
is conducted, example of an Alaskan tour and time for
questions. Fantasy RV tours will be having a free wine
tasting after the talk. If you are interested in the speaker,
but not a member of the club, you are more than welcome
to join us!
The club went out to dinner at the Buca di Beppo Italian
Restaurant at the Florida Mall. We had a large number of
members attend. All enjoyed the meal and the
camaraderie amongst the group was apparent!!
Several members of the club are going to Passport
America 1st Annual Fun Rally. The web page is
http://www.passportamerica.com/rallies . You can register
online or by phone. The number is 1-800-681-6810 and
ask for Mary. There is only dry camping available at this
point. Please let Nick De Monte, Sue Barlow or Shelley
Topf know if you are going, as we will have a social one
afternoon and want to prepare for the right number. Nick
De Monte will display the club banner at his coach.
Plans are being made to go to the Sleuths Dinner Theatre
in Orlando near Universal Studios in April. More
information about the Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show will be
forthcoming.

Collage of Soup Cookoff
Thanks to Sue and Phil Eggers for the pictures from the Regal Pointe Rental Nations potluck Soup Cookoff!!
Potato Soup Recipe
Cook small cubed peeled potatoes in just enough chicken broth to cover the potatoes. Add salt to potatoes while
cooking. While the potatoes are cooking, dice a small amount of onions and celery. The amount depends on the
number of potatoes you are cooking, your call. Cook the onions and celery in a quarter to one half cup of butter. Cook
until tender but not brown. When potatoes are cooked, put about one half of the potatoes with the broth into blender.
Add cooked onions and celery, blend until smooth. Add half and half until you reach desired consistency. Remove
from blender, add remaining cooked potatoes. Serve with shredded cheddar cheese and fresh chives.
Chicken Vegetable Chowder 2 cups cooked chicken, chopped 1 large onion ¼ cup butter 2 cans cream of potato soup 2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 large can chicken broth 2 cans Mexican style corn 1 to 2 quarts half and half 2 cans chopped green chiles 1 – two pound box Velvetta cheese
Saute onion and mushrooms in butter. Combine all ingredients except half and half and heat slowly until cheese is melted. (I cut cheese in small pieces.) Add half and half after heated. Garnish with grated cheese.
