Refugee Incidents throught history that continue to occur

A refugee is a person who has been pushed away from his or her home and seeks refuge elsewhere. A refugee is different from an asylum seeker because a refugee brings documentation. Under the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951, a refugee is more narrowly defined (in Article 1A) as a person who “owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country”. The concept of a refugee was expanded by the Convention’s 1967 Protocol and by regional conventions in Africa and Latin America to include persons who had fled war or other violence in their home country. Refugee women and children represent an additional subsection of refugees that need special attention. For the refugee system to work successfully, countries must be prepared to allow Open borders for people fleeing conflict, particularly for countries closest to the conflict.

No Time to pack

RefugeeYou have 5 min to pack & no idea when you’ll return. What will you take..?

Pack in 5 min Only 5 itemsImagine that you havesuddenly found out that you must leave your home to avoid danger in the next 5 minutes, and you have no idea when you may return.

Before you leave, you just have time to pack a suitcase, but you only have room for 5 things. What would you take and what would you leave behind? Compare your list with your friends … do you all agree on the same things?

Page 13: REFUGE_FLAT_SANDAL

Reality - No Time Fleeing - RunIn real life, some people don’t have time to pack a suitcase and instead have to run for their lives.

Wars force people to move to seek refuge. Some have to move to different parts of their country. Others flee from their country altogether and become refugees.
