Each piece has a unique feel to it ranging from contemporary, modern to classical and folk. The encounter with the Military is inspired by a story about an indigenous woman, Dopdi, by Magsaysay award winning writer Mahasweta Devi. ENCOUNTER explores imageries from the world around whether it is the Native American history or indigenous peoples history elsewhere or a modern day occurrence in Iraq or Afghanistan or Rwanda. Created by Aparna Sindhoor, Anil Natyaveda and S M Raju along with music by National award winning composer Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. An interactive dialogue between Kannada folk tales, Native American tales and narratives from contemporary women, A Story and a Song is a tale of women, environment and love told with wit and dance vocabulary that ranges from classical to aerial dance created by Aparna Sindhoor, Anil Natyaveda and S M Raju. Music by Carnatic-Jazz musician Prasanna. Prayanam (Journey) is an abstract work that travels in the realm of human emotions that ranges from animalistic passion to spiritual enlightenment. Choreography has original contemporary vocabulary with aerial dance, acrobatics and theatrical movements created by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda. Hunt is a dance theater work based on a short story by Mahasweta Devi that tells the story of a indigenous Indian woman’s battle against the deforestation of her homeland and her revenge on an urban man. Cho- reography weaves Bharatanatyam, folk dance from South India, Yoga and Hatian dance. Adapted for stage and co-directed by Aparna Sindhoor and S.M. Raju. River Rites is a celebration of the struggle by hundreds of thousands of people in India and around the world to stop the destruction of the Narmada River. Interweaving Bharatanatyam, Indian folk dance, and Yoga, River Rites depicts people’s resistance (women in particular). Written by, S.M.Raju, choreography and performance by Aparna Sindhoor. Songs from Narmada Valley are arranged to music by Warren Senders. Agua Thanneer Water (Water, Water, Water) set in two places, one in Madurai, India and another in Cochabamba, Bolivia, this work is a powerful account of the common woman’s relentless struggle for water, in two third world countries. Written and co-directed by Aparna Sindhoor and S.M.Raju, this work incorpo-rates elements of Bharatanatyam, Indian folk dance and theater, and is set to Spanish and Indian music. Music arrangement by Brian Rawson, Aparna Sindhoor and Dug Dineen.

When I was most beautiful is a work drawn from a Japanese poem of the same name, written by Noriko Ibaraki. Accompanied by live music, this solo dance, explores the depth of the tragedy that war inflicts on women. The work is an interactive improvisation between the dancer/singer and the guitarist. Music by Pete Seger.

Barbie-natyam (Dance of the Barbie) is a fusion of Indian classical and modern dance featuring five women. It is a satirical look at the Barbie culture and how it has affected the perception of women’s bodies. Drawing from childhood experiences, the dance raises important questions about the female body image.

Peace by Peace Women Speak addresses nuclear tests, the environment and women. This work, based on haikus written by S.M.Raju, blends Indian classical and modern dance and is set to music from different parts of the world. This work is a dedication to the courageous women in the Pacific islands who are speak-ing out against the nuclear tests conducted there.

The Incident and After is a dance theater interpretation of the Kannada short story by Dr. Anupama Niran-jana. A solo performance weaving Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Indian folk dance and South Indian classical music tell a story of a young couple that is leading a happy married life, which gets violently disrupted after the wife is attacked by group of men. Created by Aparna Sindhoor and S M Raju. Music by Srinath.

A Concise Portrait of Indian Woman traces the identity of Indian women from the Vedic age to contem-porary times. This work, cutting across eras, looks at women as self-made identities and not just as women in their roles of daughters, wives, and mothers. Written by Aparna Sindhoor, Srivalli T.S and S.Balasubramanyam and by Sukanya Prabhakar.

Vachana Dhara is based on the works of twelfth-century Kannada poetess, Akka Mahadevi. The solo dance explores Mahadevi’s life story and her poetic genius. Stage script is by Dr. Srivalli T.S. Music by Sukanya Prab-hakar. Created by Aparna Sindhoor. Bendre Namana is a tribute to one of the most celebrated Kannada poets of the twentieth century, Da. Ra. Bendre. His poems are brought to stage through music and dance. Stage script is by Balasubramanyam and music by Niraja Achuta Rao. Created by Aparna Sindhoor. Classical Dance Repertoire – Evening length performances in Bharatanatyam, Kuchupudi, Mohini Attamand Kathakali by world renowned artists.
