Production of refractories on the basis of periclase for glass industry is carried out at the following production sites of Magnezit Group:

Workshop for Production of Magnesi Bricks № 2 ( ZMI1,2) at Kombinat Magnezit (town Satka, Russia) - production of refractories of periclase and periclase-zirconium composition, including refractories of new generation;

Production facility – Pantekeymonovski Refractory Works (town Panteleymonovka, Ukraine) - production of refractories of periclase, periclase-chromite and forsterite composition;

Production facility – Kyshtym Refractory Works (town Kyshtym, Russia) - production of fireclay bricks, including super lightweight.

Production facility SlovMag (town Lyubeniki, Slovakia) – production of refractories of periclase, periclase-spinel and periclase-chromite composition.

The line for preparation of raw materials was completely upgraded and modernized. It allowed to obtain periclase powder (the basis of a refractory brick) on a qualitatively new level.

manufacturing capabilities

Currently one high-temperature shaft kiln Maerz is in operation. It has annual capacity of 50 thousand tons. By the end of 2012 second kiln Maerz will be commissioned with the annual capacity of 80 thousand tons. The quantity of raw materials, produced in two Maerzkilns, will have amounted by the end of 2012 to 130 thousand tons per year which will provide for production of all grades of refractoriesfor the glass industry with application of highly dense clinker periclase. Deep treatment of raw materials and upgrading of production technologies resulted in providing for the refractories of the new generation of the following characteristics: Stability of properties (clinker technology of preparation of periclaseensures homogeneity of its composition);Abrasion resistance – dense clinker periclase, produced by way of sintering of finely ground powder, possesses excellent mechanical properties;Low porous clinker pericalse with addition of super pure periclase(purity not less than 98% of MgO) ensures high chemical inertia of the refractory.

Directions for creation of novel refractory materials

The main criteria for development of new generation refractories:

Ensuring of high chemical stability against aggressive action of fuel and gaseous media;

Ensuring of high resistance to increased heat loads, acting in the upper area of glass furnaces regenerators;

Ensuring of high resistance of the refractory to the influence of oxides and sulphides of alkali metals and as a result – low intensity of decomposition of the refractory thanks to the action of additives and production technology;

Ensuring of high indices of thermal effectiveness of the refractort – thermal conductivity and thermal capacity.

Solving of the defined tasks resulted in development and establishing of production of a wide range of new generation refractories for glass furnaces regenerators. It should be pointed out that every grade of refractories has its own specific characteristics and is intended for solving of a concrete operational task.
