Tennessee will reforest 20.99 acres of the 29.23 acres of forest habitat impacted on-site within the Project workspace located within Long Pond Ironworks and Ringwood State Park (LPIRSP). Table 3.1-2 identifies the acres of existing forest within the Project ROW that will be temporarily and permanently impacted. Acreage under Additional Temporary Workspace (“ATWS”) and Temporary Workspace (“TWS”) are proposed for reforestation. Acreage in the permanent column quantifies the acreage of existing forest that will be maintained in a scrub-shrub state post-construction. The total acres permanently converted to scrub-shrub will be compensated for in monetary payment (see Section I) and through reforestation of portions of the ROW within LPIRSP not within the ½ acre grids determined to contain 33 percent or more canopy cover. See Appendix B for a depiction of the Project area overlain with the NJ DEP statewide ½ acre grid system, and grids highlighted as containing existing forested area. Table 5.0-1 includes additional acreage to be reforested in accordance with this plan, outside the grids determined to contain 33 percent or more forest cover.

The hemlock/mixed hardwood community occurs primarily on steeper slopes at lower elevations and in ravines on shallow more acidic soils.
Similar species shall not exceed 30 percent of the total planting. Seedlings shall be planted from six (6) to 10 feet apart, or at a distance mutually agreed to by the division and the State entity.
Tables were developed based on the field surveys and information in several pertinent references. References consulted in developing the tables included:

a. The number of each species planted will be as evenly divided as possible to provide a uniform mix of species within the replanted area. The total number of individual trees planted will equal 2,293 and the total number of individual shrubs planted will equal 272; however the number of each species planted will depend on available stock at the time of planting. b. Total number of seedlings, whips and caliper trees based on acres to be planted within the NJ DEP ½ acre grids with 1/3 forest canopy and acres to be planted within NJ DEP ½ acre grids with less than 1/3 forest canopy.

NOTES: 1. In addition to the Plant Lists, specialized seed mixes will be applied to upland forest proposed for reforestation within New Jersey state-owned lands. A specialized seed mix will be made for each of the upland community types identified in Section 3.0. Thespecialized seed mixes will contain the seeds identified in Table 2.2-1, as well as seeds for tree species identified in the communitytype plant list. Specialized tree species seeds will be chosen and applied at a rate as available. Application of the tree seedswill help build a seed bank within the forest floor, and will allow seedlings to sprout where conditions are more favorable for growth. 2. Table 2.5-3 contains standard fertilizer and mulching rates to be applied to restored areas. Fertilizer, lime and mulch will not beused within wetlands unless required in writing by the appropriate land management or state agency. Straw mulch will be appliedto wetlands in accordance with state requirements.3. Areas identified as having slopes greater than 15% will be sprayed with a hydro gel when seeded in place of watering after planting. The hydro gel will enable slow release of moisture for seed germination and will eliminate the need to truck water into the site, which would increase disturbance during the restoration phase to areas susceptible to erosion.4. Similar species shall not exceed 30 percent of the total planting. Seedlings shall be planted from six (6) to 10 feet apart, or at a distance mutually agreed to by the division and the State entity.5. Planting location and placement is approximate. Efforts will be made in the field to randomize spacing between 6-10 feet.6. Tables were developed based on the field surveys and information in several pertinent references.
