Reflections is the National PTA arts program that asks children to get

creative! Students are invited to create works of art in any of six different

arts categories, reflections upon a different theme each year.

The six arts categories are: Dance Choreography

Film Production

Literature

Music Composition

Photography

Visual Arts

Students can create as many projects as they like, in as many categories

as they like. Projects are submitted through a local PTA unit. From the

local PTA, projects have the opportunity to advance through judging at

council, regional, state and national levels.

Students that advanced to the regional level all receive a certificate with

a sticker for each project that advanced to the region. (Examples of

stickers are below.) Students who advanced to the state level, received

honorable mention at state, or advanced to the national level will be

recognized with a small prize from the region.

National winners will be exhibited at the National PTA Convention, June

21st – 24th, New Orleans, Louisiana. They will also be featured at the

Student Art Exhibit Program in the US Department of Education in

Washington, DC.

Why Join PTA?

As a member of your local PTA you also automatically become a member of

the Illinois PTA and National PTA. Here are some reasons why that is a great

thing:

- With over 5 million members, the National PTA is the largest

association that works on behalf of our children.

- The PTA has Legislative Committees at both the state and

national levels that continuously work to promote laws that benefit

children.

- The Illinois PTA focuses on issues that are important to families

and children in Illinois specifically. In addition, the Illinois PTA

serves local PTAs though program (such as Reflections),

training, and guidance.

- The Illinois PTA has representation on various advisory boards

and councils, such as the Illinois State Board of Education, the

Illinois Curriculum Council, and the Illinois Department of Public

Health.

- The Illinois PTA Juvenile Protection Projects include working with

state agencies on problems of child abuse and neglect, missing

and exploited children, runaways, latchkey children, corporal

punishment and juveniles in the courts.

- PTA safety projects include school crossings, school buses, seat

belts, cell phone use in school zones, child seat restraints, school

playgrounds, fire protection, and bicycle and skateboard safety.
