What do these words say to us about the depth, the faith, the prayer of the man who uttered them? Paul is not speaking out of de- pression, even though he is imprisoned at the time he writes this (Philippians 17:7, 17). His words come from a deep desire within his heart and a strong conviction of faith. “For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.” Paul would have believed in the resurrection of the dead even prior to his conversion to Christ (Acts 23:6). But it is not just resurrected life that Paul longs for; it is to be with Christ in the fullness of his glory. Not only had the risen Christ appeared to him at his con- version, but Paul had even glimpsed the glory of paradise in some type of mystical prayer experience. Paul’s personal experience of Christ rooted him firmly in Christ. “I consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). One could even say that Paul lived and breathed Christ: “I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). What a model for us to ponder! But how does one attain such Christ-centered? To be sure, Paul’s personal experience of Jesus was gift and grace. But it is also true that we can open ourselves to grace in various ways-by being faithful to prayer, reading scripture, fasting, meditating on the sacred and other acts of devotion which help to cultivate a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. Certainly Paul was a man of prayer and devotion. Let us cultivate such practices so that we too may be open to the graces, the nearness of Christ. Some Words from the
Pastor:
Dearest parishioners of Queen of Angels
Parish, I pray that you are all well and
receiving abundant blessings from God.
This time of year, as students and
teachers are resuming classes at school,
let’s remember to pray for our young people who will be
resuming their religious education classes. We pray also for
our wonderful catechists. I know with the current restrictions
of the coronavirus, our catechists and students are rising to
meet new challenges to learn in new ways. We pray that at
some point this academic year, we will be able to resume
classes in person. As you know, our bishops have been very
attentive regarding the current restrictions, to make sure that all
the faithful of all our parishes and schools are kept safe during
these times.
Please remember to take new or lightly worn shoes down to La
Purisima Catholic School for their fundraiser. It’s a great way
to give those shoes that you may not be using to those less
fortunate, and it’s a way to help support our local Catholic
school. You can call the school for more information.
In other news, we have made a few adjustments to our infant
baptismal ministry. Among the changes we have made is that
we will be offering individual baptisms, in addition to the
normal monthly group baptism we have always had. I also
hope to have babies baptized once or twice a year at a Sunday
Mass as well, so that we might all have a chance to participate
in this beautiful Sacrament, which we all have received, and
marks the beginning of the journey of faith of our children.

Finally, if you are interested in social media, please make sure
to join our Facebook page. In addition to the live stream of our
Sunday Mass at 10a.m., I am going to begin putting videos and
content on our page that may be helpful to you and your faith
journey.
As we have celebrated the Feast of the Exultation of the Cross
this past Monday, September 14, let us remember the symbol
of the cross, the challenges that God has given us
to take up in our lives, and the infinite love that He
has shown us in the sacrifice of His Son.

Parroco: Queridos feligreses de la parroquia Reina
de los Ángeles, oro para que estén bien y
reciban abundantes bendiciones de Dios.
En esta época del año, mientras los
estudiantes y los maestros están
reanudando las clases en la escuela,
recordemos orar por nuestros jóvenes que
reanudarán sus clases de educación religiosa. Oramos también
por nuestros maravillosos catequistas. Sé que con las restricciones
actuales del coronavirus, nuestros catequistas y estudiantes se
están levantando para enfrentar nuevos desafíos para aprender de
nuevas maneras. Rezamos para que en algún momento de este
año académico podamos reanudar las clases en persona. Como
saben, nuestros obispos han estado muy atentos a las restricciones
actuales, para asegurarse de que todos los fieles de todas nuestras
parroquias y escuelas estén a salvo durante estos tiempos.
Recuerde llevar zapatos nuevos o ligeramente gastados a la
Escuela Católica La Purísima para su recaudación de fondos. Es
una excelente manera de dar esos zapatos que quizás no esté
usando a los menos afortunados, y es una manera de ayudar a
mantener nuestra escuela católica local. Puede llamar a la escuela
para obtener más información.
En otras noticias, hemos hecho algunos ajustes a nuestro
ministerio bautismal infantil. Entre los cambios que hemos
realizado está que ofreceremos bautismos individuales, además
del bautismo grupal mensual normal que siempre hemos tenido.
También espero que los bebés sean bautizados una o dos veces al
año en una misa dominical, para que todos podamos tener la
oportunidad de participar de este hermoso Sacramento, que todos
hemos recibido, y que marca el comienzo del camino de fe de
nuestros hijos. Puede llamar a nuestra oficina parroquial para
obtener más información sobre el bautismo.
Finalmente, si está interesado en las redes sociales, asegúrese de
unirse a nuestra página de Facebook. Además de la transmisión
en vivo de nuestra misa dominical a las 10 a.m., comenzaré a
poner videos y contenido en nuestra página que puede ser útil
para usted y su viaje de fe.
Como hemos celebrado la Fiesta de la Exultación de la Cruz este
pasado lunes 14 de septiembre, recordemos el símbolo de la cruz,
los desafíos que Dios nos ha encomendado para asumir en nuestra
vida, y el amor infinito que nos ha mostrado. Nosotros en el
sacrificio de su Hijo.
