MAY 20, 2018 PENTECOST COME HOLY SPIRIT… RENEW THE HEARTS OF YOUR FAITHFUL AND KINDLE IN US THE FIRE OF YOUR LOVE! For the past few weeks, Jesus has been pausing in His instructions to His disciples to tell them of the gift of the Holy Spirit. They, like us, had a future to face without His physical presence. But the Spirit will guide them. In many ways the Holy Spirit is the ongoing presence of Jesus to disciples of all ages. The Spirit will stand by us in times of difficulty and trial, defending, guiding and instructing us. Through the gift of the Spirit, the mission of Jesus continues! No matter how well the disciples have come to know Jesus, they will not be able to perform their mission of communicating God’s love, Jesus’ life, death and Resurrection alone. Jesus was not able to reveal all the wonders of God during His lifetime among us. It would have been too much for one period of one set of human beings to cope with. It is the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, sent by Jesus from the Father, who will accompany the Church through the whole of history, guiding us towards the complete truth. Yes, the Father’s love and the Father’s plan have already been shown in the life and teaching of Jesus. But we were not able to grasp if totally. The Spirit of Truth will further unfold all that the mystery of Jesus among us means. There will be times, in all of our lives, when we wonder whether the promises of Jesus and God are true. Pentecost reminds us of the richness of the gift of the Spirit. It fills us with courage and encourages us to respond to life with faith, love and hope. God made us and God loves us, however sinful we may sometimes prove to be. God has saved us through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and fills us with life through the gift of the Holy Spirit. REFLECTING WITH THE PASTOR

COME HOLY SPIRIT… RENEW THE HEARTS OF YOUR FAITHFUL AND KINDLE IN US THE FIRE OF YOUR LOVE!

Divine Healer, God of Wholeness, we place these parishioners in Your hands; we ask for healing, but also for acceptance of their illness and of Your holy plan. Help them and us to embrace whatever You have in mind for them. Support them in their anxieties, fears, pains, and the frustrations of their illness. Support them with the strength of the Holy Spirit. We ask this in the name of Jesus, compassionate healer of those in need of health and hope. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP

THIS WEEK, FROM THE ST. SUSANNA VINCENTIANS...

Today as we celebrate Pentecost the Holy Spirit wants to make us advocates of God’s presence to bring new life to others, especially those who do not know the love of God in their lives. When you give to our Parish Outreach Ministries, which includes our parish St Vincent de Paul you help the area poor to believe in the mystery of God’s love for them.

BECOMING CATHOLIC!

This week our candidates and catechumens studied Salvation History! Did you know we see the New Testament as the culmination of the Old Testament? Can you name the covenants that God made with His people in the Old Testament? These covenants are a sign of God’s faithfulness to His creation. Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses and David demonstrate man’s journey with God - sometimes man loves well and sometimes he does not, however God never leaves us.

We took the time to view and discuss Symbolon: Knowing the Faith; Session 4: The Story of Our Salvation on FORMED (our “Netflix for Catholics” site). You and your family can view this too by going to stsusanna.formed.org. It also makes us of “God’s Word” to prepare for mass each week with the scriptures! Our schedule is on our website and anyone is welcome to join the fun in our Becoming Catholic classes (RCIA)! Also, don’t forget to invite someone on the Catholic journey!!

MAY CAREGIVER SUPPORT MEETING

care·giv·er (’ker,giver/noun); a family member ‘or paid helper’ who regularly looks after a child or a sick, elderly, or disabled person. That’s the simple definition. The Patience of Mary

The image of Mary—surrounded by the apostles in the upper room, awaiting the Holy Spirit—has

a name: Regina Apostolorum, Queen of the Apostles. She is enthroned as Queen Mother because, when her Son the King was enthroned and lifted up, he told her, “Behold your son.” With those words he entrusted Mary to the care of John, the apostles, and the whole Church. As any good queen and mother, she defends her own.

She is also called the Spouse of the Spirit, because it was in union with the Spirit that she engendered the Son. She also engenders him in the apostles and in our souls through her powerful intercession and waiting on the Spirit.

One of Mary’s best qualities is waiting patiently until God’s power arrives. After the annunciation she waited nine months with Jesus in her womb. Then she waited some thirty years while Jesus grew and prepared for his mission. She waited during his public life and watched as his fame spread, but also as his enemies plotted. She waited at the foot of the cross and endured that unending Holy Saturday until the resurrection. And she waited patiently on the first Pentecost Sunday for the coming of the gift of the Holy Spirit promised by her Son. She knew he would come through, as he always did.

We get impatient with God and want him to respond on our timetables according to our expectations. He waits to give us a chance to adapt our hearts to his plan and timing. He waits until the time is just right.
