ReconciliationActionPlanfor2017–2018Vision statementCommunityChildCareAssociationunderstandsthatreconciliationbetweenAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderpeoplesandotherAustraliansistheresponsibilityofallAustralians.WerecognisethesignificanceofbelongingforAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderchildrenandfamiliesforthemtogrowandreachtheirpotential.

Ourvisionistoprovideleadershiptoothersinsupportingrelationshipsthatarerespectful,welcomingandinclusiveforAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderpeoples.

CommunityChildCareAssociation’svisionforreconciliationisbasedonthecoreprinciplesofcommunity,capacityandcollaboration,whichunderpinourworkasthepeakbodyfornot-for-profit,community-ownedchildren’seducationandcareservices.ReflectingonthesevaluesasanorganisationhasledustoquestionandchallengewhatwedoeverydaytoensurethatAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderpeoplesarerecognisedandappreciatedinmeaningfulways.AstheTraditionalOwnersandCustodiansofAustralia,theTorresStraitIslandsandthesurroundingwaters,theFirstPeopleshavesomuchtosharewithusaswestriveformoreethical,interconnectedandinclusivecommunities.

WerecognisethatunlessCCCiscommittedtoreconciliationthroughadoptingapracticalactionplan,thesmallandsignificantchangesnecessarytoshiftfrompositionsofracism,ignorance,regretandtokenismwillnotbeachieved.WebelievethatourReconciliationActionPlanwillprovidepracticalstrategiesforbuildingandrenewingdeeperpartnershipsandengagementwithAboriginalcommunities,organisations,familiesandindividualssothatwecanlearnfromeachotherasweworktobuildamoreequitableandsociallyjustnation.

OurReflectReconciliationActionPlan

IndevelopingCCC’sReflectReconciliationPlan(RAP),weaimtoproviderespectful,effective,positiveleadershiptotheCCCboard,staff,educationandcareservicesandthewidercommunity.

BuildingonnewandexistingrelationshipsthroughconsultationandcollaborationwithAboriginalandTorresStraitIslandercommunities,organisationsandstakeholderswillpromoteacknowledgementandsignificantreflection.

Strengtheningpartnershipsisanimportantstepingaininggreaterknowledgeandunderstandingtofurtherreconciliation.

IndevelopingourRAPweinvitedallstaff,CCCmembersandtheboardtosubmitanexpressionofinteresttoprogresstoformaRAPworkingpartygroup(RAPWPG).WeextendedaninvitationtoVAEAI,apartnerinourVIAConsortium,fortheirwisdomandguidanceforAboriginalprotocolsandknowledge

CCCiscurrentlycontractedundertheAustralianGovernment‘sInclusionSupportProgrammetobetheleadagencyforthedeliveryoftheVictorianInclusionAgencyasaconsortiumwithYoorallaandKUChildren’sServices.TheVictorianAboriginalEducationAssociationInc.(VAEAI)isapartnerinthisproject.

OurreconciliationtodateCCCinourroleasProfessionalSupportCoordinatorin2008workedwithYapperaChildren’sServicesintheprovisionofprofessionalsupporttoIndigenousChildren’sServicesinVictoria.

InpartnershipwithYapperaChildren’sServicesCo-operative,CCCco-authoredWalking Together(2012),aninclusionresourceforgeneralistservicesaroundVictorianAboriginalandTorresStraitIslandercustomsandprotocols.

Currentinitiatives

CCC’scurrentinitiativesinclude:

• AdvocacyforincreasedinvestmentinAboriginalandTorresStraitIslanderearlyandmiddlechildhoodeducationandcare. Insubmissions,consultationsandthroughletterstostateandfederalgovernmentandpoliticianswehavecalledfor increasedongoingfundingforexistingandnewBudgetBasedFundedservicesandAboriginalChildandFamilyCentres

• DevelopingrespectfulrelationshipsbyconnectingwithEldersforWelcometoCountryatconferences,forums

• InternallyemphasisingtheimportanceofdevelopingaRAP

• CommunicatingandencouragingstaffaswellaseducationandcareservicesinVictoriatouseReconciliationAustralia’s Share Our Pride online tool

• Ongoingculturalawarenessprofessionaldevelopmenttrainingsessionswithallstaff,someexternalcontractorsand theCCCboardmembers–thisincludes:

i. RegularupdatesonCCC’sRAPjourney

ii. PartnershipprojectswithVictorianAboriginalEducationAssociationInc.
