OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF HERITAGE RIDGE SOUTH PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION NOVEMBER 2017

AT HERITAGE RIDGE SOUTH CAMBRIDGE

Strange Thanksgiving Facts President Thomas Jefferson thought making Thanksgiv-

ing a National Holiday was “a ridiculous proposition.” The real first Thanksgiving was held in Texas in 1541

when Francisco Vasquez de Coronado and his expedition held a Thanksgiving celebration in Palo Duro Canyon.

Baby turkeys are called poults. They are ridiculously cute.

Sarah Hale is considered the “Mother of Thanksgiving”. She urged President Abraham Lincoln to make it a Na-tional Holiday. She also wrote the popular song “Mary Had A Little Lamb.”

Cranberries were once used for more than just sauce. Native Americans used them to treat wounds and dye arrows.

The first Thanksgiving meal took THREE DAYS to eat. Domestic turkeys can’t fly — but they have been to out-

er space. Turkey was the first meal enjoyed by the Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

The Turkey was Ben Franklin’s vote for the national bird.

The Snoopy Balloon has appeared more than any other balloon in the Macy’s Annual Thanksgiving Parade.

There were no forks at the first Thanksgiving. People ate using knives, spoons, and their fingers.

The very first TV dinners sold were turkey dinners (and look at the price!).

The night before Thanksgiving is the single biggest day for bar sales in the U.S.

The best way to tell if a cranberry is ripe it to see if it bounces.

Americans eat the weight of Singapore’s population in turkey every year — up to 690 million pounds!

The average person eats enough each Thanksgiving to gain 1.3 pounds.

Important If you are living in your home, your clamshells should be up. In the event of fire, if they are down, you may not be

able to safely vacate your home.

November Neighborhood Crime Watch

Well it has been a relatively quiet month except maybe for the hurricane that passed through. Here’s praying that you all were safe and that your received no great harm to your property. From what I have seen we escaped with minor damage, at least for most of us. Our place received very mi-nor damage, so minor I didn’t have to put in an insurance claim. My house apparently never lost power or at least not for a long period of time. We were in California visiting our son when it happened and could get our messages left on our phone. If the power was off we wouldn’t be able to do that. I haven’t received any information about potential scammers looking for work because of the hurricane. It doesn’t mean it didn’t happen but only that no one reported it to me. So, keep your guard up in case they begin to show up and by all means please remove any valuable items along with any fire-arms from your car and lock it up. Never go to sleep with your vehicle unlocked. The sheriff’s department is always preaching for us to lock up and it makes perfect sense. Stay safe Joe Chippari

The quilters will start back up on Tuesday, November 7, at 9:00am in the Clubhouse. Call Ruth Wintle at 603-557-2782 for information.
