We have sorted and pulled books that are going to be donated to the Eastern Monroe Public Library. The books we donate will be sorted and organized and

included in their annual fund raiser.

The NOOK area is being developed so it can be utilized to entertain children during various church functions or by adults waiting for appointments or gathering their children after church activities such as AWANA.

Because of the reorganization project, please do not leave book donations for the library until further notice.

Featured materials that will be available will be highlighted in future newsletters.

Contact Jill Bugdanavage If you have any questions or suggestions at 570-972-0320.

Electronic Giving Did you know that through a link on the Church Website or a mobile application “Joyfully2UMC” for smart phone/tablets

you can electronically process your offering/giving to Reeders. You can select a 1-time or recur-ring transaction. If you choose to give “electronically” , if possible, please opt to give through you’re a transaction from your checking account. The system does pro-vides a credit/debit card option. However, that option costs the church significantly more in pro-cessing fees. In order for Reed-ers to receive the optimum bene-fit from your giving, please con-sider utilizing an “ACH” transac-tion from your checking account.

Monday’s at 10 am in the Church Conference Room

We resumed a study of women from the bible beginning with the study of “Debra”.

We meet every Monday morning in the conference room of the church. Please contact Beth Derrick at 570-872-248 or 570-872-7191 for more information. Everyone is welcome! Bring a friend and enjoy fellowship over discussion on the women of the Bible.

In an attempt to streamline the use of your time we will be trying something new. Meal preparation and setup of the fellowship hall will take place at 8 PM on Friday evenings (instead of Saturdays). Volunteers will be needed on Saturdays to serve (4 to 6 pm) and cleanup (6 to 8 pm). We only need 2 or 3 people for each 2-hour period. Please make sure you sign up on the fellowship pad in your pew on Sunday or contact the Church office. Signing up will hopefully assure volunteers that your help is needed.

Pastor

Trivia Dear Pastor Rick,

Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of the “Back To Church” Sunday service at Reeders. What a blessing it was to be there! Your con-gregation was welcoming, hospitable, and receptive. I was grateful for the op-portunity to share God’s word. It was a pleasure to meet you. May God pour out His blessings on you and the ministries at Reeders UMC. In Him, Marian Sehman Marian & Friends Dear Brothers and Sisters in faith, Your kind words, cards, prayers and thoughts have truly helped support me through a very heavy and sad time. This outpouring is a sweet reminder of just how special this congregation is! My mother loved this church family. Her constant faith led her through many diffi-cult times in her life. She always walked with grace, dignity and humility, even until her final days. Many friends made donations to Pocono Plateau, Reeders United Methodist church or had Gideon bibles placed in her name! Thank you so very much for helping to honor my mother. The imprint that she made on many heats will be cherished. Thank you for being here for myself and for my family. I truly appreciate our out-pouring! Much love, Michaelynn Myers

Since much of the congregation will not have had opportunity to attend this year’s Charge Conference, I felt led to share my annual report to the Conference

here. I welcome any conversation any of us feel led to have in response to it:

PASTOR’S STATE OF THE CHURCH REPORT, 2017

I describe the overall current State of the Reeders United Methodist Church as being healthy. Three observations come to mind:

➊ We just went through a pastoral transition that, by my assessment, seemed

more like a time of celebration than challenge despite the fact that our former pastor was by-and-large warmly embraced and continues to be dearly missed by the congregation at large. I reflected out loud in response to a friend of mine who once asked how things were going for me at Reeders, “I haven’t spent an ounce of energy ‘earning the right to be there’.” July 1, I showed up. We had a party. July 2, I got to work. The biggest pastoral transition issue we’ve had to deal with to date is choosing the fabric pattern for the new pads on the furniture in my office…a decision that is, I might add, still not yet made.

➋ Our times of worship are a delight. I look forward to going to church on a

Sunday. There is an apparent spirit of welcome, engagement and expectation among the congregation that has at least sustained -- if not recorded a slight increase in -- its average attendance.

➌ Reeders has an obvious desire to be a…correction “the”…community church.

Our list of outreach initiatives warms my heart. I’m elated about the fact that I have to spend an inordinate amount of energy just trying to keep up with my congregation! Granted, we can also observe symptoms of unhealthiness, or challenge, for which we wish to provide care. Three additional observations come to mind:

➊ We continue to recognize an “in” and an “out” sense of belongingness in

relationship development and sharing. While this varies in degree from person-to-person, we see it. Our intention is to explicitly respond to it in redemptive ways when we do.

➋ Perhaps related to the former sign of “dis-ease,” we observe a generation-gap

that causes us to hold one another at arms’ length when we attempt to plan and implement ministry goals and objectives together across age-barrier lines.

➌ Our physical plant is in need of ongoing, significant modifications, updating

and remodeling. Our intention is to prioritize (as we have done), and address each of them as funding resources become available for us to do so. However, given our overall sense of well-being borne from a history of overcoming that has immunized us from the kinds of viruses that might otherwise give us pause, I am confident that we will continue working toward addressing these symptoms with the same spirit of overcoming we have observed in the past. - Rev. Rick A. Conrad, Pastor
