Hello to you all.

As many of you know, I’ve been engaged with caregiving for my parents. Although my folks have moved much

closer to me, I still drive about 30 minutes to their new home. I mention this fact because the drive past the Inland

Empire mountain views in Spring can be some of the most spectacular scenery you’d ever hope to see! This year

with the large amount of precipitation, the green grasses and orange, yellow and purple wildflowers carpeting our

hills are truly a sight to be seen. I know you all focused on red cochineal last month, (and it is a great color,) but

don’t forget the Spring hues on our color wheel which are literally springing up all over our mountains, hills and val-

leys! Any inspiration for your weaving or spinning? I am attempting to put those colorful sights I see on my drive

into my design mind for future color projects.

Due to my family commitments, I again cannot be with you in April. However, join Janet Castro, Sallie Scanzoni

and the rest of the gang at the meeting. Janet and Sallie have an exciting program planned that I am sorry to

miss.

See you all in May.

Spinners… Sunday, May 21, 2017

San Bernardino County Museum

Volunteers are needed to demonstrate weaving and spin-

ning, and to help with demonstrations for children. Chil-

dren's activities will include Kumihimo cords, weaving pot

holders and hopefully one other activity.

and Guild Liaison at: suz.chap@verizon.net if you

have any suggestions for children’s activities and if you

plan on attending this annual guild activity. There will be

a sign-up sheet at the April 10th meeting.

day you add a new thread to the

2017 Guild Challenge

2017 IEHG Challenge!!

• Find a favorite piece of artwork. It can be a painting, sculpture, tapestry, mural, architecture, music, and so on...

• What is it about this piece of art that moves or inspires you? Is it the colors, textures, design elements, use of

positive and negative space and so on... maybe even the subject matter.

• Pick your colors and weave structure to reflect your response to the art piece.

• We will do this as another towel exchange in June. This was such a fun event last June. Towels are not such a

personal item that we can't all love each and everyone of them to use in our kitchen or other chosen location!

In June you will have your picture and share your inspiration with the other luncheonettes

as your towel is won!

IEHG Weaving for Beginners & Beyond

Suzanne Chappell, Instructor NEW Spring 2017 Weaving Schedule

Learn to weave (or refresh your skills) on a 4-shaft or a rigid heddle loom in a small class setting. This is a pro-ject based class that covers weave structure, yarn and project selection, measuring yarn, warping the loom,

weaving and finishing a project. Classes have 3-5 stu-dents. Loom rentals are available.

San Diego Botanical Gardens - On May 6th and 7th, 2017, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., the Misti Washington Gourd and Basket Guild presents its thirteenth Gourd and Basket Weekend at San Diego Botanic Garden. Throughout the weekend, 30 classes will offer students of all abilities the opportunity to show off and devel-op their basket weaving and decorative gourd skills. There will be artisans and vendors with their creations and materials available for purchase, as well as displays. Sixteen instructors from around the country will offer classes ranging from A willow Back Pack to Beading on a Gourd as well as Broom Making.
