Founded in 1960, Reed has a strong focus on its core values – it aims to be fair, open and honest, and to empower its people to take ownership of their responsibilities and to work together to help the company achieve its goals. People are at the heart of the organization and this focus extends to the wider community – 18 percent of the business is owned by the Reed Foundation and across the organization, employees (known as Co-Members) work one day a week for charity. Reed was very much focused on traditional classroom learning delivery and managed and administered training using a variety of spreadsheets. It needed to deliver much more flexible and agile digital learning, so that individuals could access learning at the point of need, on the job. The recruitment agency had been providing some eLearning, but that tended to be in the form of discrete PowerPoint- style resources. There was little facility to track learners’ progress or to confirm that learners had completed Saba, for us, was a platform where we could store all of that information for the thousands of staff across the business. THE CHALLENGE

Reed Specialist Recruitment is the world’s largest family-run recruitment company.

The recruitment agency had been providing some eLearning, but that tended to be in the form of discrete PowerPoint-style resources. mandatory compliance training. To address these issues, it needed to digitize and centralize its talent management practices, and integrate its performance management with its learning and development.

THE SOLUTION Reed turned to Saba Cloud to help transform and digitalize its talent strategy, branded internally as Talent Hub, the solution now helps Reed quickly and easily manage its annual and monthly development reviews. With Saba, it now has a portal where employee performance data can be securely stored.

From a learning management perspective, HR professionals are able to allocate training courses to target learners using certain auto-populated fields. For example, when someone joins the company, the solution will generate automatically the courses that person needs to complete, based on their location and their role. Previously, members of the Learning & Development department had to schedule training courses manually from spreadsheets. The Saba solution has automated all of that.

To boost employee performance, Reed has customized the Saba badge function, which allows employees to recognize each other’s achievements. Co-Members can now recognize a peer’s performance with an ‘impression’ on Saba Cloud, which is linked to Reed’s reward and recognition program. People who have been nominated by their peers are then put forward for quarterly Spotlight Awards. In the past, Co-Members made nominations via email, which made it very tedious to organize and offered limited opportunities for people to see the great work happening across the company. Now that the reward and recognition system is visible on the Saba platform, all employees can see – and share – examples of good performance.

THE BENEFITS Using Saba Cloud, classroom-based learning management is centralized and simpler. Reed’s new Talent Hub has made it possible to track learner progress and document completed training, as well as recognize and reward employees for their work and achievements.

Every company says they want to engage, motivate and inspire their people. As we see it, the problem is not that they can’t – it’s that they don’t have the environment that really enables their top talent to thrive. Saba creates that environment, with talent development solutions that put people and teams in the driver’s seat of their own experience, while staying aligned to your business goals. And delivering deep performance insights that connect people to business success, like no one else can. Saba. The Talent Development Company.

The Saba Experience:

Co-Members, from apprentices to managers, now have access to resources that give them real-time, consistent, answers to questions they may have on the job. With the support of Saba Cloud, employees now have the fReedom to learn and grow on an ongoing basis, and they have even more opportunities to connect and share knowledge with one another. All of this is part of Reed’s culture of continuous development, something that the company recognizes will continue to push its business forward.

Reed is focused on digitizing its business to make it mobile, flexible and to drive performance. As part of that, it plans to develop mobile learning with Saba very soon. Its ultimate objective is to match candidates to roles more effectively. Working with Saba, Reed has created an easy-to-use and effective platform to drive the learning and performance that will help the company achieve its goals.

We wanted to do more from a systems perspective with the performance and talent management of staff. We have always had a big learning culture. What we haven’t had is a solution that could support that. In particular, we never had a system that could manage appraisals centrally. Saba, for us, was a platform where we could store all of that information for the thousands of staff across the business. In addition to that we have enjoyed the benefits of the learning platform as well. Roger MasonHead of Learning and Development, Reed Specialist Recruitment
