The BQ is a balanced port, brass body valve. Six body combinations include SAE flare and ODF solder configurations as well as internally and externally equalized versions. The thermostatic element to valve body joint is the superior knife edge metal-to-metal, which ensures a leak proof connection. EBQE and SBQE bodies are excellent choices for R-410A systems with their integral solder fittings.

Inserting the cartridge from the top of the BQ valve, rather than the bottom, allows access to the cartridge without disturbing the connections. This design benefit is available in valves with solder or flare fittings. And, the BQ’s innovative and patented top-loading design provides identical refrigerant flow patterns to Sporlan’s standard TEV, increasing the valve’s stability during low loads. The BQ’s five cartridges are sized from AAA to C to correspond to standard balanced port valve sizing.

Because BQ elements are selected independently, you can choose the best possible thermostatic charge for your application. Our range of elements includes the KT-45, designed for the high pressures associated with R-410A, and it meets the rigid requirements of the original equipment manufacturers.

BQ valves can be tailored for most small refrigeration and air conditioning applications. You select the right element for your system refrigerant, the right cartridge capacity and the body style that suits your needs.

With just six valve bodies, five cartridges and the various elements the BQ family gives users over 600+ different combinations of TEVs for to-day’s common refrigerants and replacements. The interchangeable components are ideal for wholesal-ers, who can greatly reduce inventory, while offering contractors the full line of TEVs they expect.

Carrying a stocked BQ case helps prepare contractors and service technicians for most situations - eliminating costly trips back and forth to the wholesaler and special orders. The case can be customized with the components in the greatest demand. With just the components supplied in a BQ case, you can configure valves to satisfy 120 unique applications.

Benefits of the Benefits of the Benefits of the

Larger Diaphragm Means Better Control The larger diaphragm in the element of a Sporlan TEV provides better control over the operating range and reduces the fatigue stresses associated with a smaller diameter diaphragm.

Compare a valve with a small diaphragm to one with a larger diaphragm. For the two valves to provide equivalent capacity, the pin of each valve must move the same distance from the port. A smaller diaphragm assumes a sharper curvature with a shorter radius. This imposes greater stresses in the metal, hastening fatigue failure induced by repeated flexing.

Decreasing the small diaphragm’s stroke will prevent excess stress and increase its life, however to obtain equivalent capacity with the shorter stroke, the shape of the pin or seat must be altered. A blunt pin (short taper) will allow greater flow, however increasing the flow verses stroke (or gain) will result in a valve that is too sensitive and will result in hunting. Valves with the a long taper, as in the Sporlan valve, will reduce the valve sensitivity and provide better control.

Selective Thermostatic Charges Recognizing that a single thermostatic charge cannot work effectively over the useful range of evaporating temperatures of many standard refrigerants, Sporlan introduced selective charges. The charges are designed for low temperature, medium temperature and air conditioning applications. Since the BQ valve’s body and thermostatic element are supplied as independent components you can select the best possible thermostatic charge for the application.

Superior Body Construction Integral sweat connections and superior knife edge joints eliminate the potential for leaks associated with many mechanical joints. Valve construction and strength is superior.

Increased Flexibility Replaceable thermostatic elements increase the flexibility of Sporlan valves. They allow the thermostatic elements to be replaced during system conversions to a new refrigerant, or for service, without replacing the valve or removing the valve from the system. Sporlan elements also utilize knife edge seals with 60+ years of proven performance. The selection of elements in the BQ line can be used with all common refrigerants, including R-410A.

Removable Strainer Maintains PerformanceThe patented removable strainer is a key feature in maintaining the performance of the system. The strainer can be removed and cleaned while the valve remains on the system. This is a time saving feature for situations where the system has recently been started and contamination from installation may be present.

Valve Flow Improves ControlSporlan valves are designed with the refrigerant flowing against the valve pin. This design feature improves valve control when light loads occur and the pin modulates close to the valve port.

In competitive valves, when the flow is in the same direction as the pin, the valve may become unstable at low loads. This occurs from the pin being drawn into the valve port from the refriger-ant flow and corresponding pressure drop causing an unstable valve hunt. Another problem with this design is, as the inlet pressure changes the amount of closing force acting on the pin will also change. This will cause the superheat set point to fluctuate as the ambient temperatures change. Sporlan’s balance ported design eliminates this problem by negating the affect the inlet pressure has on the valves superheat setting. This is accomplished because the inlet pressure acting on the pin is offset by the same inlet pressure acting on the push rod in the opposite direction.

Additionally the Sporlan flow design reduces or eliminates the risk of charge migration by direct-ing the warm entering liquid to the upper section of the valve body warming the thermostatic ele-ment and maintaining it above the bulb temperature. In other cartridge style valve designs, valve flow is with the pin, cooling the thermostatic element, which may lead to charge migration.
