The Washington Redskins plan for 2014
was to fix the issues ailing quarterbackRobert Griffin III. A season after going 3-13
and never looking comfortable, Griffin III
posted a more inconsistent season in 2014.
Head coach Jay Grudens relationship with
Griffin III was complicated at best. The
effort to develop the young quarterback into
a traditional pocket passer took a hit early in
the season when Griffin III broke his ankle
in a September game.
Without developing Griffin III further, the
Redskins are destined to continue their
streak of futility. In the last six seasons, the
Redskins have finished last five times in the
NFC East.
The Redskins offensive line is in need of
attention in free agency and the draft. In stepsoffensive line coach Bill Callahan from
Dallas, recognized as one of the better
offensive line coaches in the NFL. Callahan
will mix both a zone and power scheme that
should make the most of running back Alfred
Morris abilities.
The Redskins defense struggled to cover
opposing receivers in 2014. Part of this was
linked to their lack of pressure on opposing
quarterback, but much of it was due to theirshaky secondary play. Washington cant go
wrong with upgrades at cornerback or safety
in 2015.
But it all comes back to quarterback play if
the Redkins are going to turn it around.
