Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak (REDEEMS) is a community based organization (CBO) for the 12 Kampungs (villages) in Singai area of Bau District, Kuching Division of Sarawak.

These kampungs predominantly inhabited by not less than 15,000 people of the Bisingai Bidayuh tribe.

REDEEMS was officially registered with the Registrar of Society (Malaysia) on the 7/7/1997 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and non-profit body (NPB).

REDEEMS

REDEEMS is an organization of the community, by the community, and for the community. The current REDEEMS main activities include:- (i)REDEEMS Centre Development, (ii)Bamboo Botanical Park (iii)Bidayuh Language Development Project,(iv)Education Program, (v)Community social welfare and services,(vi)Community capacity building program,(vii)Annual Gawai Carnival Redeems.(viii)Annual praise and music festival(ix)Annual Redeems youth Carnival

REDEEMS BAMBOO BOTANICAL REDEEMS BAMBOO BOTANICAL PARK.PARK.

- The bamboo botanical park was initiated in 2004 - 18 hectare of idle community ancestral land reserve covered with primary forest.- Initially was funded with UNDP small grant fund USD50 K to create a community protected area .

- Dedicated mainly for bamboo protection, conservation, development and research.- Community added more bamboo species as stock plant.- Aim for bamboo livelihood development centre.

• One of the aim of Bamboo park is to set up a bamboo craft & science centre to promote a livelihood industry.• In 2008, REDEEMS & INBAR conduct a bamboo furniture craft workshop at Redeems centre.• In 2011, REDEEMS purchase 3 basic bamboo machine from India using CIMB bank SCR fund.• REDEEMS run annual bamboo exhibitions at annual Redeems Gawai Carnival.• In 2014, REDEEMS in collabolation with UPUB, CM office promote bamboo based industry.

SEED BANK & SPECIES SEED BANK & SPECIES CONSERVATIONCONSERVATION

• September 2014 REDEEMS signed MOA with Agriculture Research centre , Sarawak to establish SEED BANK project.• SEED BANK project is to research , document & register local food fruits species, herbs, bamboo etc.• Community nursery will be set up.• REDEEMS has network with BNV in Jogjakarta and FRIM in Serdang, Selangor for bamboo mass propagation.
