E LECTIO N G UIDELINES A PPLYING Applicants can apply for any number of positions An applicant must complete an application (available online) for each position A PPLICANT E LIGIBILITY Must be an active member Must be a member for at least a semester Must be a member for at least a year to run for President Members on co-op or traveling abroad are eligible to run V O TING The President and Vice Presidents are elected by vote Votes are cast by paper ballot You may only vote for one applicant for each position V O TING E LIGIBILITY Must be an active member Must be a member for at least a semester Must be present to vote (members on co-op or traveling abroad are not eligible to vote) Must be present for the entire process for all of the candidates to vote for that position Seniors as well as current officers are eligible to vote E LECTIO N M ODERATOR The current president moderates the election. If the current president is a candidate for a position, he/ she may not moderate the election. In this case, the next highest officer attending the election moderates the election for all positions. E LECTIO N O RDER The officers are elected in the following order: President, VP for Alumni Relations, VP for Membership, VP for Marketing and Outreach Programs, VP for Recruitment

ELECTION GUIDELINES APPLYING

Applicants can apply for any number of positions An applicant must complete an application (available online) for each position

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

Must be an active member Must be a member for at least a semester Must be a member for at least a year to run for President Members on co-op or traveling abroad are eligible to run

VOTING ELIGIBILITY

ELECTION MODERATOR The current president moderates the election. If the current president is a candidate for a position, he/ she may not moderate the election. In this case, the next highest officer attending the election moderates the election for all positions.

ELECTION ORDER The officers are elected in the following order: President, VP for Alumni Relations, VP for Membership, VP for Marketing and Outreach Programs, VP for Recruitment

ELECTION PROCESS 1) Candidate order is drawn randomly 2) All candidates leave room 3) Job description is read through by moderator (1 minute) 4) First candidate presents platform (3 minutes)

A timer will be set for each platform presentation. When the timer expires, the candidate is allowed to wrap up his speech

Candidates may end early on any part of their election process but they may not transfer time from one portion of the election breakdown to another

If the candidate is on co-op or traveling abroad, the moderator will read his application to the members and review his platform

5) The election moderator fields questions for the candidate from the general body (5 minutes) 6) Candidate will then leave the room 7) Next candidate will enter the room and repeat steps 4 through 8 8) A count of all voting members present will be taken 9) After all candidates present their platform, each member will secretly cast a paper ballot 10) Ballots will be counted twice by two outgoing officers

To be elected to the position, the candidate must receive the most votes 11) Candidates are brought back in and the winner is announced

Once an applicant is elected to a position, they are removed from any further elections 12) Election for next officer begins

NO CONFIDENCE

confidence from the general body. If a vote of no confidence is received, the moderator of the election will decide on the course of action.

OPENINGS If no applicants are elected to a position, the current officer will remain in that position until the position is filled. A special election will be held to fill the position.

APPOINTMENT All other positions are appointed by the incoming executive board, with a deciding vote from the

President If a new position is created during or after the election has taken place, the executive board may

appoint a person to the position. Interested members must fill out an application for the new position.

An application extension for appointed positions can occur as per the discretion of the incoming Executive Board
