F ROM THE P RESIDENT S D ESK July was pretty busy for car shows as there was something going on just about every weekend. I was able to get to 3 events, which was a nice change, and an opportuni- ty to show of my new top thanks to Rusty Rhame and Mark Winderweedle. I drove out to the Texas welcome center the second Saturday of July with the intent of meeting any club members that wanted to go. I got there and 30 minutes later, I left by myself to hand out fliers for our show. Once I got there, I got a text from CD Henderson saying that he was going to meet me there and asked to hold him a space. While wait- ing for him, Mark and Barbara drove by where I was parked in Marshall, and we were able to get them a space across from CD and me. Unfortunately, CD and his friend wouldn't be there long. As soon as CD and his friend arrived, you could see they were on a mission to get something o eat because they hadn't eaten all day, so Mark, Barb and I decided to wait with the cars until they got back. While they were gone, Mark noticed a liquid dripping out from underneath CD's car which turned out to be engine oil. There was quite a bit flowing out too, causing CD to leave immedi- ately and go to a nearby auto parts store to get oil and put it in the car to get it home. We were all speculating what the problem could have been, you couldn't see where the oil was coming from. After a visit to the Ford Dealer, CD learned that when he had his oil changed, the filter was not torqued to the correct specification, so it came loose and started leaking. I guess those new high out- put engines have a lot higher oil pressure, and you actually have to torque it on to spec- ifications. I wonder if CD got free oil chang- es for life over that blunder. Thank good- ness it was something easy and not detri- mental. After that scare, the rest of the day was nice. Mark and I were able to hand out 50 cards to different Mustang and Ford owners. After- wards we went to Davis Grill and had the best catfish ever. Best as in you did not need to add Tabasco or tartar to it, the breading and fish flavor was awesome all on its own. I will be eating there on my next trip to Mar- shall. The usual 4 blocks of cars were pre- sent, with different things for everyone to see and enjoy. The following Saturday was a short notice reschedule of the Red River Car show on Grand Bayou in Coushatta. I met up with the Ponders at the Brookshire Parking lot, then CD again met up with us so we cruised down together avoiding water in the road from in- termittent rain on the way down. Just north of Coushatta, CD called me and asked if I needed to put my top up because it had started to sprinkle, and it didn't look good ahead. All the way down I got sprinkled on here and there, but I agreed to pull over and put up the new top. We drove through some harder rain, and when we finally got into town, the rain had stopped. We parked at the show on Grand Bayou, got the pop up set up, just in time for the sun to come out and make everything nice and hu- mid. There was a breeze every once in a while, but otherwise it was quite sweltering. Bottom line, everyone won an award, and the food was pretty good also. I did not get the email about the show until the Tuesday before, so there were only about 20 cars there, but none the less, there was a little bit of everything, including other Mustangs for a total of 6 mustangs, 3 classics and our 3 late models. Finally, I got out to Breakfast and Fast Rides the fourth Saturday and got to see different folks from some of the other car clubs. 2014 Board of Directors President Thomas Monahan 797-8385 Vice President Mark Winderweedle 347-8505 Secretary/Newsletter Lane Butler 423-5316 lane.butler@centerpointenergy. com Treasurer Vickie Doss 687-8818 Ext. 111 Show Director Rhonda Butler rrcmc.showdirector@yahoo. com Activity Director Nicole Ferlito 470-7581 Internet Director Jeff Crockett Member at Large Ernie Lane Member at Large Stephen Gayer MCA Regional Director Sabrina Lane MCA National Director Donna Arends Red River Classic Mustang Club P.O. I drove out to the Texas welcome center the

Christoper Prest was in town and came by, and we also got a surprise visit by Ernie Lane, who is doing quite well,

and looked great. The parking lot was full by 8:55, and the store by 9:15. Everybody was either inside enjoying

donuts, or outside checking out all the cars. By 10:15 it was time to head over the bridge to the west gate for the

Base Exchange car show.

It was a hot day, sitting on the blacktop parking lot under 2 pop ups, but since we were more out in the open, a

breeze would blow through cooling us off. By 1 o'clock, we couldn't stand it anymore, and went in to the food

court to get something to eat and partake in some air conditioning. We had several club members win awards.

Mustangs dominated the show with 16 mustangs in attendance, 8 of them member cars. CD's wife had a hand

in the show, and recruited him to get Mustangs there, so judging by the attend-

ance he did an awesome job. Yes, it was hot, but what do you expect for July. We

still had a great time talking shop with some of the other Air Force Mustang guys,

and enjoying the music they were playing over the speaker system.

Next month is our Show at Wray Ford. We still need lots of Door Prizes and Goody

Bags. If you brought in sponsors for the show or our club, see if they have 75 of

some kind of advertisement item they would want to donate for our goody bags.

Cups, pens, pencils, business cards, antibacterial gel, etc. If you are out shopping

and see something you like, get 2, and donate one for a door prize. It doesn't

have to be car related. The Ladies like to get door prizes too.

See you out there!

M CA N E W S The countdown for our trip is in the last few

weeks. Hope everyone has started their to-take

list. Items that are helpful are, rain gear is case it rains,

light jacket (don’t know one might come in handy) extra

car key (make sure your passenger has the key on their

person in case you've locked yours in the car. Rob

knows this first hand.) Can become expensive. A rule to

go by is if you think you might need it, take it. Chances

are that you will. We'll be meeting at the Whataburger on

N. Market at 6am on Wed. Aug. 31 and will leave at 7

am. Don’t be late, so get your rest the night before and

get ready to have some fun. The first day will be long,

but we've always seem to have fun in spite of the long

hours.

In the September issue of the Mustang Times will be a

ballot card for the election of new MCA board members

for the next year. Please follow the instructions on the

card and mail it in. The regional directors will also re-

ceive notification to the website and vote on the election

of the new executive office. Please vote because it's

very important.

Have you ever thought what the first Shelby Cobra would

be worth? At one time Carroll Shelby was offered 5 mil-

lion dollars for it and turned it down. This month the

Carroll Shelby Trust Foundation will be putting it up at

the Southeby"s auction in Calif. It's said that it will be

the highest price for any American car to auctioned

off. Will be looking forward to see what it goes for.

Till then, see you on the road,

Donna
