I dedicate this month’s issue to women, marking the International Women’s Day (March 8). Starting from my own home, I salute my mother and dear sister who are the main source of inspiration and pillars of strength to me. I also remember all my women colleagues who stand by me through thick and thin. When it comes to translating my sentiment into black and white, I have chosen Mrs. D.K. Aruna, who ministers the state’s information and Mrs.Mallika Manoj, who administers the Vaibhav Empire in Vizag. We record their thoughts in the Eve segment.

Variety is the spice of life and I have added Spice to our variety. This segment includes the most happening tattles and gossips of the two cities that would heat up the readers' minds. Be ready to taste the tang.

Siddharth is on a new high with his latest release Jabardasth. We couldn’t have thought of a better star for our cover because he can impress two generations. If he is the dream boy of girls, he is also a hot favourite of their parents, who wish they had a son like him (remember his Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam role). Despite his busy schedule he patiently and very candidly fielded a number of questions we shot at him.

Less-exposed Lakshadweep makes it to our Retreat folder. With its serene and unspoilt natural surroundings it could be the best place to chill out but there are some formalities that have to be fulfilled to reach this paradise on earth. We gave you all the possible information about the tourist destination. We continue to keep our date with yoga this month too. However, our Tips segment talks of the timing, “Early to bed, early to rise....” - the maxim I myself never follow, thanks to the weird media deadlines. But our experts insist that nothing works like early hours to tone your body to tackle the rest of the day.

And Holi is here. A tiny traditional intake of bhang either in solid or liquid form, once a year, is perhaps harmless. Hence we brought you the bhang-ridden recipes in our Cuisine segment. Before you turn to the regulars, let me wish you a very Happy Holi and a special greeting to our woman readers.

MEET ON CARGO EXPORTSThe Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Air Travellers' Association jointly organised a roundtable on cargo exports. The meet felt that the Airports Authority of India, the Navy and other Govt. agencies and departments should take immediate steps to facilitate handling of EXIM cargo at the Visakhapatnam airport, as already the city is connected to two international destinations (Singapore and Dubai). Chamber president K. Ramabrahmam, Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy, K.V. Raju, Jayaraj, Station Manager of Air India, Sameer Mankhad, Director of GSEC, handling agent K.S. Rao, Director of Airports Authority of India, D. Varada Reddy and others were present.

BLOOD COLLECTION VAN INAUGURATED Minister of State for Commerce D. Purandeswari inaugurated an air-conditioned mobile blood collection van, the first of its kind in the region. She also released a booklet to mark the 10th anniversary of Rotary Blood Bank. G. Venkata Ramana Reddy, Trustee of Shirdi Sai Trust, one of the major donors who helped set up the mobile blood collection van, O. Naresh Kumar, CEO, Symbiosis Technologies and Kishore Kumar, project chairman were present.

VENKY STEALS THE SHOW Actor Venkatesh stole the show at the Rath Yatra organised by Ramakrishna Mission Ashram to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Commissioner of Police Shivadhar Reddy flagged off the yatra held between VUDA Park and Kali temple. Nearly 15,000 students, holding the placards, participated in it. The actor advised the students to give up negative thoughts. Minister of Commerce and Industry D. Purandeswari, Symbiosis CEO O. Naresh Kumar, CMR proprietor Mavuri Venkataramana, Sri Prakash Educational Institutions Director Vasu Prakash, Swami Nikileshwarananda, Shanatatmananda, Swami Guneshananda of RK Mission and others were present.

HABIB BEAUTY SALON OPENEDJawed Habib Beauty Studio, India’s famous Beauty Salon Chain opened its branch at China Waltair in the City. Swathi Lakra, DIG, Visakhapatnam Range and film actor-cum-model B. Soumya inaugurated the beauty salon that provides all facilities related to hairstyle, skin care, bridal makeup and other beauty related services. The owner of the beauty studio Varma said that Jawed Habib was expected to visit this studio shortly to give more tips on hair treatment.

He was spreading awareness through an awakening campaign ‘I care I react’ that aimed at bringing a revolution among the youth without them waiting for someone else to react and protest against sexual harassment of women. Principal of the college Uma Bala, secretary of the school D. Satyanarayana Reddy, regional coordinator of the campaign Sai Vijay and the staff members were present.

PLEASURE CUM BUSINESSThe annual and third edition of the Shriram EPC Invitation Golf tournament held at the East Point Golf Club turned a rendezvous for golfers from corporate companies across the country. It was a great opportunity for them to bond. Golf enthusiasts from various business houses in Vizag, Chennai, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar were spotted hitting the ball. The tournament began with an inaugural tee off by the chief guest, Rear Admiral N.K. Mishra, CMD, Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The winner of Gold Division (0-12) was S. Noel Treasure and that of Silver Division was Dr. Gangadhar Prasad.

The mainstay of the programme was that the venue had a group of intellectuals like Mumbai Dabbawalas CEO Pawan Girdharilal Agarwal, former Regional Manager of The Hindu and composer-cum-singer T.A. Venkateswaran, Managing Director of Institute of Biotechnology Pvt. Ltd., Kalasapudi Srinivasa Rao and director of Care Hospitals, Secunderabad, G. Surya Prakash. A book ‘Scientists Greater Than Einstein’ which was abridged by Dr.Srinivasa Rao along with Padmavathi Anaparthi was unveiled by Dr. Surya Prakash. Later, the students interacted with Agarwal and Venkateswaran. Director Ch.Vasu Prakash was also present.

He said that students should give importance to sports for their overall development. Such festivals would tap the hidden talents of the students, he added. He hailed the former education minister late Alwardas for his contribution to the education field. Students from around 20 schools participated in as many as 18 competitions. Various cultural programmes were organised on the occasion. City Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy was the chief guest at the valedictory function. ‘Kalanjali’ fashion parade was the highlight of the event. Principal Harshalata Chiranjeevi, Executive Director Divya Das, Secretary S.P. Ravindra and Correspondent Dr. S. Vijaya Ravindra were present.

Principal Sandeep Chitra read out the annual report. The DEO gave away prizes to the brilliant students of the previous academic year. Bothra Shipping Corporation chairman Ajith Chandra Bothra was present. The School vice-principal Rajani Chitra anchored the event.

ith its opening, Kalyan Jewellers the largest jewellery chain in India has topped Vizag’s women’s list of best spots to shop. With Thrissur, WKerala as its headquarters, this is the 45th showroom of the brand.

With a carpet area of over 15,000 sft., it is built in 4 floors on Sampath Vinayak Temple Road. Each of the precious metals and stones has specific categories of collections.

Each floor has its own specialty. The ground one displays pure gold heavy neck pieces, bangles, vaddanams and armlets. There are a few simple necklaces too with stone, enamel, beads and kundan work. If one is interested in savings by investing, there is a counter on this floor with a board saying ‘Schemes’ that gives all the info.

The next floor takes you to gold chains, pendants, rings, bracelets and earrings. The collection is wide and the men on the other side of the counter are salesmen who ensure the customer gets what he/she exactly wants. The shop has a special kid zone on this floor.
