Principal’s Report: Bunnings BBQ:
Sunday’s Fundraiser barbeque
at Bunnings was a great
success. I sincerely thank all
parents and staff that came
along and cooked or served
customers. We made a
sensational $1,150 profit for
the day. Thanks again to
Fisher’s Supermarkets for
donating the sausages for the
day.
Walk to School Day:
Today’s National Walk To
School Day was very well
supported by our staff,
students and parents.
A total of 136 students either
walked, rode, scooted or
skated to school today.
Yesterday we had 72 children
walk or ride to school. Well
done to all involved.
Grade 6 Polo Shirts:
Students in grade 6 are now
proudly wearing their 2014
year 6 Graduation Polo Shirts.
The design selected by the
students, looks fantastic.
Lake Cullulleraine:
Students in grade 5 and 6 will
be participating in the Lake
Cullulleraine Camp next week.
Students depart Red Cliffs
Primary at 9.30am Tuesday.
After spending 3 days (and
nights) canoeing, bike riding,
painting and orienteering they
will return at 2.30pm on
Friday.
I sincerely thank our staff–
John Warburton, Brooke
Allen, Tracy Craig, Wendy
Allford, Shiralee McCarthy
and Kevin Laity for making
this camp possible.
Whole School Maths Day:
Today was the annual Red Cliffs
Primary School whole School
Maths Day.
Students worked in their usual
grades, in buddy classes and in
unit groups exploring maths
concepts and playing maths
games. The purpose of the day is
to focus on how important maths
is to everyone.
It was great to see a large number
of visitors throughout the day.
It is important that our students
see their parents value maths and
have an interest in it.
I urge parents to “talk maths”
with their children at every
opportunity– count things out,
have number fact quizzes, discuss
money and hopefully have fun.
Welcome:
On behalf of everyone at Red
Cliffs Primary I welcome
Lucas Gallardo (gr.6) and his
family to our wonderful school.
I know that Lucas will soon feel
at home in his new school.

Principal

Trent Hamilton:
Somers was a great camp. The thing I liked
the best was the flying fox. We had to wear
a harness and get attached to two hooks.
We went really fast! Rock climbing was
indoors and also really fun. I missed the
practise climb but went straight to the really
big one! I made a new friend from Ranfurly
Primary which was great!
Olivia Doolan:
Last week I went to Somers Camp. It was real-
ly fun and my favourite activity was the Chal-
lenge Swing! On the Challenge Swing you had
to go up really high on a pole and you got to
choose how high you wanted to go up. I went
all the way to the top! When I got to the top, I
was nervous but then I let go of the rope and it
turned out to be really fun! I made some new
friends named Jasmine and Samantha who are
both from the Lake Primary School. The food
and the dormitories were all good and I would
love to go back there again one day!!
SOMERS CAMP 2014
By Zac Stevenson
When I got to Somers I was so excited. I just
couldn’t wait to get out of the bus to do all the
activities. We got to do archery first which was
fun. The second activity I did was surfing. I
did it with Gordon and Helen. They made sure
that we were all safe. I only stood up on the
board twice which was a big achievement for
me.

Somers camp was awesome because when you go
there you make a lot of friends. Whilst you are still
making friends you can go to E.S. (environmental
studies) and feed guinea pigs, birds and two goats.
When I went there my favourite activity to do was the
flying fox because it was dual cables so you could
race your friends but when you get to the end make
sure to land on your feet. My second favourite
activity was a challenge swing because you can go all
the way up (18.5m) and if you don’t feel confident
enough you can choose how high to go and you will
always have a supervisor in your group.

I really like Somers camp it was sooo awe-
some! You get to meet new people and make
new friends. I made heaps of friends but my
closest friends were Ashlee and Mae. We
love talking in an accent. It’s really funny.
Ashlee and I went partners for orienteering.
By Tyrell McKenzie
On Somers it was lots of fun. It was good be-
cause my first activity was biking. Someone in
my group got a little piece of bark in his tyre. My
hut was number 4 and there were 19 other people
in your hut and they are from other schools. I
made a friend named Jake from another school.
We made nicknames for each other. His nick-
name was Norton, I had a nickname and it was
Sessie.
By Jackson Norris
On Somers we did a lot of things. The things
I liked the most were the flying fox and ar-
chery. For the flying fox you had get into a
vest. It was the same as the c/swing. It is basi-
cally a high speed vest. For archery if you are
left handed you hold the bow in your left
hand and there are different grips for different
hands.
