My family makes a LOT of garbage!

Page 4: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Think of everything you threw away today...

My old toy

Dinner scraps

Leftover lunch

The shoe I chewed up

Page 5: Recycling is Doggone Easy

But where does all this garbage go?

???

Page 6: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Workers pick the garbage up in a truck.

Page 7: Recycling is Doggone Easy

The truck takes the garbage to the landll.

Page 8: Recycling is Doggone Easy

That sure is a lot of garbage!

Page 9: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Some of this garbage doesn’t have to be thrown away. It can be recycled.

Page 10: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Some products we use can be made into new things. This is recycling.

Page 11: Recycling is Doggone Easy

When you put bottles, jugs, cans and paper in a recycling bin or cart, a dierent truck picks it up and takes it to the recycling center.

Page 12: Recycling is Doggone Easy

When the truck gets to the recycling center, workers and machines separate the recyclables.

Page 13: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Next it goes to a factory where it gets made into something new.

Page 14: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Old papers make new paper.

Old glass makes new glass.

Old plastic can make carpet.

Old metal can make new metal appliances.

Page 15: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Since the new things are made from recyclables, we are saving natural resources.

Page 16: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Recycling also saves energy. It takes less energy to make new products from recycled products.

Page 17: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Composting is another way we can recycle. Composting is nature’s way of recycling.

Page 18: Recycling is Doggone Easy

You can save fruit and vegetable scraps, leaves, and grass to make a compost pile.

Page 19: Recycling is Doggone Easy

When you compost, insects, bacteria and fungi (FBI) break down the material.

COMPOSTBIN

Page 20: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Your scraps turn into nutrients that can help owers and vegetables to grow big and strong.

Page 21: Recycling is Doggone Easy

Some things can’t be recycled or composted, but they can still be reused.

Page 22: Recycling is Doggone Easy

The best way to help save energy, natural resources and put less in the landll is to reduce how much we use. When we use less of something, we are reducing.

Save, save, save the cans, throw them in the bin,

We can help to save the earth if we all pitch in.

Save, save, save the paper....

Save, save, save the bottles....

Save, save, save the plastics....
