Recycling Cylinder

Recycling can be some times confusing. Plastic recycling is sometimes perceived as the only mean for recycling

Recycling is based on the three R's Reduce, reuse and recycle

Recycling is a full spectrum of acts and initiatives focused on available resources and how to save them through conservative and reoccurring use and then reusing them in different forms by remanufacturing.

Based on this I though about the areas used for waste and how we can reduce it. I thought about our daily activities and noticed that bottled water takes a lot of space although it is light and empty

I wanted to create a small device with the following criteria:

No power requirements Easy to use Small in size Printable by 3d printing at home ( I published the

design as open source to public)

The process of manufacturing the device included:

I designed a small cylinder in sketchup 3d modeling software

I printed the first prototype and tested it I made necessary adjustment to the 3d model and

printed the second prototype The results were magnificent and I managed to

reduce the size of PET bottles waste to almost one third

Way to go I intend to add an armature It would be good to reduce force needed to compress

the bottle through torque conversion by using levers or threaded design
