Grant funds will be used to supplement, but not replace, existing funds. Non-reimbursable costs with grant funds include, but are not limited to:

Requires a minimum fee of $0.50 per tire

Copy of a resolution or ordinance provided with application

A Community and Litter Grant application can have multiple grant requests:

Requested total amount equals $100,000 or less

Does NOT include C&DD and deconstruction, curbside, MRF, or organics recycling

KAB Certification and KAB renewal cannot be requested together

Systems and individual equipment to collect and process C&DD material at the point of generation or disposal. Funding is also available for efforts related to the deconstructing of materials for re-use markets.

Curbside Recycling $200,000Equipment related to the implementation of a new community curbside recycling service or an expansion of an existing program.

Material Recovery Facility Recycling (MRF)

$200,000The establishment of a new or expansion of an existing MRF.

Organics Recycling $200,000

Facilities capable of handling or seeking to handle food waste or other compostable material and proposing to install an “in-vessel” or similar processing system. The project may include ancillary equipment supporting an “in-vessel” composting unit.

Drop-off Recycling $100,000Purchase of equipment for start-up or the expansion of drop-off recycling collection programs.

Glass Recycling $100,000Collection and processing of mixed or color separated glass. Also any manufacturing of a finished product that uses glass as a base material.

Special Venue Recycling $50,000Recycling collection program targeted at sporting venues and entertainment facilities.

Tire Amnesty Collection $40,000Amnesty collection of scrap tires. Applicant is required to charge a $0.50 minimum fee as part of this grant.

Outreach & Education Training

$25,000Creating new or updating current recycling & litter prevention education and training materials.

Surveillance Cameras $25,000 Surveillance cameras for litter law enforcement efforts.

Sponsorships (Statewide Conferences)

$3,000Sponsor statewide recycling & litter prevention conferences that promote environmental efforts and technologies.

KAB Certification Fee $4,000 Certification fee for Keep America/Ohio Beautiful.

KAB Annual Renewal Fee $550 Renewal fee for Keep America/Ohio Beautiful.

2019 Market Development Grant

Eligibility: Private sector businesses who are located and registered to conduct business in Ohio

Businesses applying for this grant must secure a public sponsor to serve as the cooperating enterprise, which includes an agency of the state (i.e. municipality, county, township, village, state college or university and solid waste management district or authority)

One hundred percent cash match

Maximum grant period of 24 months

The Market Development Grant program operates on a reimbursement basis for the businesses and non-profit organizations

Projects involving use of scrap tire material in drainage systems and backfill applications in construction sites. Construction of trails, walkways, ramps utilizing scrap tire material or use of pavers made of scrap tire material.

Paving (GTR or RAS)$300,000

Projects involving the use of ground tire rubber (GTR) or recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) or the combination of both in new paving initiatives.

Evaluation of eligible applications is based on the following parameters:
