potential problems arising from changing use patterns and new activities and recommends strategies to deal with them. Participates in the development of plans for recreation area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects in accordance with program management objectives and policies. Develops annual work plans for management unit. Prepares detailed project work plans and schedules, including required personnel, equipment, and supplies.

Recommends settings for a variety of proposed recreation facilities and provides information about the characteristics of each area.

Assists in the implementation of recreation operation and maintenance plans for developed and dispersed recreation sites.

Monitors the scope of the approved operating plans.

Gathers, compiles, and recommends improvements for developed and dispersed recreation sites on the unit. Serves as a point of contact with community organizations and interest groups to generate interest in and use of forest recreation facilities. Involves the community in program and activities, and determines and recommends possible public involvement. Coordinates group visits with operational personnel and communicates schedules and requirements for logistical support. Recruits and trains volunteers.

Assists with performing compliance checks and inspections on existing permits under Special-Use authorization. Assists with the enforcement of Off-Road-Vehicle (ORV) restrictions, including maintenance and posting of regulatory signs and enforcement of restrictions. Patrols district roads, trails, and waterways and ensures that use is in accordance with recreation plans and regulations. Ensures District closure gates are opened and closed in accordance with the plan. Protects the scene of any incidents and relinquishes control to police or other law enforcement officials.

Prepares job hazard analysis and conducts safety training for all projects. Strictly complies with and enforces the Forest Service Safety Code. Carries out the provisions of the Forest and District Safety Plans and makes recommendations for improvement in the safety program. Safely operates hand and power tools to perform construction and maintenance duties and to train co-workers and volunteers in their use.

Patrols management unit to collect use data, identify or correct unsafe conditions, answer visitor inquiries, prevent vandalism and other anti-social behavior, gather current information recreation opportunities, and prevent theft of Forest resources and their destruction resulting from carelessness with fire.

*****THE DUTY STATION***** The City of Boulder, with a population of about 100,000, is nestled against the east side of the Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The elevation is 5,348 feet above sea level. Boulder is located 26 miles northwest of Denver and its metro-area population of more than 2.5 million people.

As the 9th largest city in the state, Boulder is a full-service community. Health care facilities and churches are widely available. Entertainment opportunities abound in Boulder and the metropolitan area, with a wide array of restaurants, theater, world-class museums, and sports-and-music venues.

Dual career opportunities exist in the Denver metro area, including a wide variety of federal agencies in easy driving distance. Federal employees stationed in Boulder receive locality pay to offset the cost of living in this area. An average one-bedroom apartment rents for $950-$1600 per month.

Indian Peaks and James Peak Wilderness Areas provide nearby wilderness day-use and camping opportunities. Rock-climbing and mountain climbing are popular and Colorado has 50 peaks higher than 14,000 feet. Rocky Mountain National Park, a spectacular national treasure managed by the National Park Service, adjoins the District to the north.

Colorado’s Front Range has a semi-arid climate, with 300 days of sunshine per year. Summer highs typically range in the 80’s and 90’s with afternoon thunderstorms and pleasantly cool nights. Winter nights are cold, but daytime temperatures typically warm to 30 – 60 degrees. Boulder receives approximately 150 inches of snowfall each year.
