ProjectOverviewCommunitydevelopmentismosteffectivewhenthoseinstigatingtheprojectsaretheoneswhounderstandbestthechallengesthattheideaattemptstoaddress.Communityprojectsrepresentanactofempowermentattheleveloftheindividualcarryingouttheproject,aswellasforthecommunitytheyareimpacting.Recrear‐Participaciónwillengage50universitystudentsinatwoweekssimulationgameandwillimpartthemwiththenecessarytoolsforbuildingacommunitybasedproject.ThepilotwillserveasalaunchforwhatwillbecomeasustainableprojectforRecrearglobally.Thesimulationgamewillincludeprojectmanagementtrainingandteamwork.Recrear‐Participaciónwillprovideanopportunityforstudentsto:· Understandthebasicprinciplesofdeveloping,managingandimplementingsustainable

Itisthiscuriositythathaspushedhertomakethemostoutofherexperienceasastudent.GioelgrewupinasmalltowninItalyformostofherlifeandhasalwaystriedtograspany

opportunitytostudyabroad.DuringherundergraduateattheUniversityofNewOrleans,GioeltravelledtheworldandstudiedconflictresolutiononboardoftheScholarShip.Thefour‐monthtripwasatrueinterculturalcommunication‘experiment’anditprofoundlyimpactedherviewoftheworld.

Afterthatpowerfuljourney,GioelreceivedagranttostudyandworkinGermanyforayear.In2009,shespentamonthinNablusdeliveringa‘CulturalDialogue’workshopwithProjectHope.Followingtheproject,Gioeltookpartinco‐foundingRecrearwiththeideaofestablishingaplatformtofacilitatestudentsandyoungprofessionals’accessaplatformtoexperimentinnovativedevelopmentalapproachesandlaunchtheirowninitiatives.GioelholdsaBAinInternationalStudieswithfocusonDiplomacyfromtheUniversityofNewOrleansandiscurrentlypursuingaMPhilinDevelopmentStudiesatCambridgeUniversity.

Thetrainingwillincorporateanumberofsessionsaimedatfamiliarizingstudentswithprojectdevelopmentandmanagement.Amongthesessionsdeliveredwillbe:

TeamworkThroughgroupactivitiesandinteractivesessions,studentswilllearnthestepsinvolvedintransforminganideaintoaproject.Theteamworkwillbeorganizedinthreephases:

Eachstaffmemberwillbeassignedtoasetofgroupsandwillbecomethepointofreferencethroughoutthedurationoftheworkshop.

• TheIdeaAtthisstagestudentswillbreakintogroupsof5‐6andbrainstormpotentialprojectideas.Studentswillbeguidedtogobeyonddiscussingcompetingideasbutactuallyanalyzethefeasibilityofeachproposedproject.Studentswillbeencouragedtoevaluateprojectsbasedoncost‐effectiveness,relevanceofideatothecommunity,sustainabilityandfeasibilityoftheproject.
