Recovery Procedure of CS461 Firmware Version to V2.0.7 Ver.2

1) Introduction This document describes how to recover the CS461 reader to firmware version 2.0.7. Since the firmware v2.0.7 was too old, the CS461 reader cannot be downgraded to this version simply by the web firmware upgrade interface. A series of firmware recovery procedures is required. In summary, the below steps are required to recover a CS461 to firmware v2.0.7

(i) Downgrade CS461 to V1.168 - Perform major upgrade manually on CS461 via the console port (along with Ethernet) by entering console commands

(ii) Perform minor upgrade for the firmware library files on CS461 via web interface

(iii) Perform minor upgrade on CS461 to v2.0.7 via web interface 2) Requirement The following items are required for the firmware recovery: Hardware PC/laptop with Windows OS Straight serial cable Crossover LAN cable Software TFTP server program (included in CS461 major upgrade package) HyperTerminal program (on Windows) CS461 Major Upgrade Package v1.4 (CS461-v1.4_major_tftp.zip) CS461 Minor Upgrade Package v2.0.7 (CS461-v2.07_minor_lib.zip)

3) Hardware Connection Connect the reader and the PC/laptop as below for upgrade. In this example, the IP address of the PC is 192.168.25.105 and IP address of CS461 reader is 192.168.25.150. They have to be configured in the same subnet. 4) Install TFTP server on the PC/laptop A TFTP server is required on the PC/laptop for the Reader to download the firmware files. It is included in the major upgrade software package. Unzip the major upgrade software package and run a TFTP server program (tftpsrv.exe) on the PC/laptop. 5) Login the reader from Console Terminal - Run HyperTerminal on the PC/laptop - Connect to the reader’s RS232 console with the settings : 115200, 8, N, 1, No flow

6) Major Software Upgrade via Console Firmware Upgrade Flowchart

Install TFTP Server on your PC

Get Straight Serial Cable and connect Com Port to the Reader’s DB9 Port

Start Hyperterminal on the PC

Connect Power to the Reader

Check and make sure the Hyperterminal displays boot up messages.

At the prompt, punch return and the login prompt comes out. Input “root” as ID and “csl” as password to enter the Linux screen.

After that, follow the software upgrade procedure. Copy 1 line to the Hyperterminal to run. Run 1 line by 1 line !!!

For some of the lines, it will come back to ask you questions, in that case punch “Y”.

Section 2 : Test Procedure after Major Software 1. Type “reset” or power recycle to reboot the reader. The board should now start-up and run the newly installed image. 2. When the reader is rebooted and starts up it will take a few minutes to complete its internal setup. 3. Login the Edge Server by typing the URL http:192.168.25.248 in the Internet Explorer as shown below. (Login: root and Password: csl2006)

4. Set Access Mode to “High Level HTTP API Mode” under System menu.

7) Minor Software Upgrade (v2.0.7) After the above major upgrade is done and you can access the web interface, upgrade the minor upgrade firmware on CS461 web interface. Unzip the CS461 Minor Upgrade Software package and upgrade the following files on CS461 in sequence.

Open the page “Firmware Upgrade (Local)”. You can reach the page by clicking “Version -> Firmware Upgrade (Local)” on CS461 web interface.

Enter full path of upgrade file in “Firmware file location” entry using “Browse…” button. Then, click “Firmware Upgrade” button to send file to reader. Please repeat this action until all the 4 necessary files are upgraded. After that, restart the reader. The reader will be in firmware version v2.0.7.
