INTRODUCTION

The Recommended Penalties are provided for the Investigating Officer (IO), the

Driving Standards Observer (DSO) and the Stewards of the Meeting as a guide

to the level of penalty that may be applied for various breaches of the Rules.

Subject to appeal, the Stewards are the authority to determine penalty and in

doing so will consider this document and the recommendation of:

the DSO for penalties relating to driving infringements

the CTM for penalties relating to technical infringements

the IO for penalties relating to other infringements.

Any penalty will be proportionate with the breach: that is, the extent to which a

Rule is breached may be a factor in determining an adjustment (up or down)

of the penalties recommended herein. An exception to this is a Technical

Breach where exclusion is mandatory. Other exceptions may include Rules

which are in place for safety and/or are performance related.

In applying a penalty varying from the recommended, consideration may be

given to safety implications, performance gains and it being a Driver or Team

related breach. It should be noted that these three areas often cross-over in

terms of consequence.

In all cases any serious breach of safety related rules should equal a strong

penalty.
