(per group of students)

1 pack of 8-10 toothpicks wrapped in aluminum foil

1 pack of 4 large paper clips bent at 90o wrapped in aluminum foil

50 ml Sterile Calcium Chloride solution

50 ml Sterile Water

Recombinant Transformation Sterile Materials(per group of students)

• 1 aluminum foil packet containing 8-10 toothpicks

Recombinant Transformation Sterile Materials(per group of students)

• 1 aluminum foil packet containing 4 large, smooth paper clips. The clips should be opened into a 90° angle and the small ends bent up.

Recombinant TransformationSterile Materials

• Heat the foil packages containing paper clips and toothpicks at 350oF for at least 30 minutes to sterilize.

Recombinant TransformationCaCl2 Solution

• Dissolve 0.75 g of CaCl2 into 50 ml of distilled water in a labeled 100-ml glass bottle with a cap.

Recombinant Transformation CaCl2 Solution

• Cap the bottle and place it in boiling water for 30 minutes. Cap should be "snugged" down on the bottle.

• Refrigerate to prevent contamination.

Recombinant Transformation Sterile Distilled Water

• In a bottle with a cap, add 50 ml of distilled water.

• Cap the bottle and place it in boiling water for 30 minutes. Cap should be "snugged" down on the bottle.

• Refrigerate to prevent contamination.
