Recognyz System Technology: An Introduction by Sharon Moalem In an effort to improve treatment and research in the field of rare diseases, Recognyz System Technology was founded in 2010 to develop new technologies for understanding orphan, or rare, diseases. Estimated to affect more than 25 million Americans, or one in 10,000 individuals, rare diseases are often neglected and underrepresented compared to widespread health conditions like cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Recognyz seeks to create technologies that “will allow healthcare practitioners to diagnose individuals with rare genetic conditions who otherwise would not have been identified.” With the support of doctors, donors, and research participants, Recognyz aspires to “unlock the science” behind neglected disorders to improve the lives of individuals and the overall efficacy of medical technology.
