Me and My World
• Books we will be looking at: On the Sudden Hill, Only One You, Whatever Next!, Peace at Last, The Great Pet Sale, Kippers New Pet.
• Talking about families, homes, hobbies and what makes us unique
• Observing and identify a range of habitats by studying the immediate environment through the outdoor provision and woodland walks
• RE: How do religions celebrate the birth of a baby? Photos of Christenings etc.
Trip: Woodland Walks
Out with the old and in with the new
•Books we will be looking at: Alfie and Dogger, Kippers Toybox (and others, following the children’s interest)
•Children will learn about old fashioned games and toys and how this may be different to now
•Celebrating grandparents day - if any parents or grandparents would like to come in to read a story/ talk to the children they would be most welcome
Trip: Woodland Walks Visits: Games afternoon with parents/grandparents
We are Kings and Queens (Celebrating Britain)
• Children will learn about Lives of significant individuals including historical Kings and Queens and the Royal Family.
• They will learn about famous Landmarks in London and we will look at famous stories such as the adventures of Paddington Bear
• We will learn about British Values and how we show these in school

Everyday Hereos
•Learning about different occupations and how everyone can make a difference
•RE: What people are special and why?
•Lives of significant individuals- Pride of Britain. Celebrating differences.
•Looking at children’s favourite superheroes (Story: Supertato!)
Visits: From nurses, police officers etc. If any parents would like to come in to talk to
children about how they help people e.g. doctors, vets etc. it would be most welcome
How does your garden grow?
•Minibeasts
•Explore life cycles of living things- Chicks, Butterflies and Frogs
•Grow our own plants, identify what they need to survive and observe how they grow
•Learning about different fruits and vegetables, growing our own and then using them to make food
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
• Exploring our own locality – possible visit to a beach (Southend on Sea)
• Learning about animals and mythical creatures that live under the sea (The Rainbow Fish, Finding Nemo, The Singing Mermaid etc.)
• Pirates!
• Learning about key physical features, including: beach, cliff, coast, forest, hill, mountain, sea, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation, season and weather
English •Weekly class story that we focus on and writing activities are based on
•Phonics- Read, Write, Inc
•Handwriting: Pre-cursive letter formation
•Daily opportunities for both adult-led and child initiated writing activities
•Gross and Fine Motor Skills – developing pencil control
•Name writing daily for Reception children
•Handwriting daily for Year One
Maths •Maths is taught using a scheme published by White Rose Maths Hub, which incorporates fluency , reasoning and problem solving

Other information • PE will be on Tuesday
• Please make sure all uniform and PE kits are labelled clearly with your child’s name.
• Forest School- Will start after Christmas. This term we will have a number of Woodland Walks. Dojo message will be sent regarding clothing for this nearer the time.
• Reading Buddies – Reception children have a Year 6 buddy and Year One children have a Year 5 buddy
• Lunch Sittings – children will be helped by reading buddies
• Enrichment-Friday afternoon

Homework and Expectations
• Reading at least four times a week and recorded in your child’s reading record
• Homework will be sent out this Friday. Non-negotiable and negotiable tasks.
• Me and My World Books – handed out every Friday and to be returned on Monday (Speech and Language, Social Skills, Confidence Building)
