For my latest video, I already knew I would use my Sixth Form’s Photography Studio as one location. However, I needed a

Graveyard. There were two I considered; St. Wilfrid’s in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire and St. Michael’s & All Angels Church in South Normanton, Derbyshire. One of the main

logistic factors in helping me make my decision was accessibility for my performer. I wanted to make sure my actress would be

able to easily attend shoots. Consequently, I went with the churchyard within her home town; St. Michael’s & All Angels…

(This slide gives you a description of each Churchyard I considered)

I contemplated using this Churchyard as it was near to my home; it also having the eerie look I was after. However, while considering and conferring with my performer, I

realised it may be more logistically beneficial to shoot my video in a graveyard that was located near herself; enabling

her to easily access the location/venue on filming days…

ST. WILFRID’S CHURCH, KIRKBY-IN-ASHFIELD

This was the church I decided would be my exact location to film at. The reason being, like St. Wilfrid’s, it was extremely grand and intimidating which is what I wanted. It also being in a suitable location for my performer to each without much

hassle.

ST. MICHAEL’S & ALL ANGELS CHURCH, SOUTH

NORMANTON

I will use the graveyard for as many shooting days as necessary. Using my location to create the highest-quality of visuals possible, using various elements to really emphasise

my point; e.g. asking my performer to ‘mull around’ the graves/trees etc.

MY USE OF THE GRAVEYARD

Page 7: Recce Shooting Research #2

Due to the Church/Graveyard being a public establishment, I would necessarily say there is any specific permission we

need granted. However, due to the nature of the location, we will treat it with the upmost respect, making sure to take extra care as to not cause harm/ upset to those living or

deceased.

During the extremely early planning stages, I realised this was a location I wanted to film some of video within. Using

this would be extremely simple yet effective due to it being a part of my Sixth Form. I would use it until I was content with

the footage captured, perhaps if I wasn’t, asking if I could return to film again. Logistically, it would also be perfect as we would have many various facilities to use from/help us with my shooting (e.g. changing areas for my performer/

artificial lighting).

SIXTH FORM PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO

Here is an image of myself inside the Photography Studio when checking it out for suitability.

For this, I will need to speak with the head of Photography based within the studio. Asking if this would be possible, and

if so, arranging with him suitable times and days etc.

PERMISSION

Recce Shooting is something very important and beneficial, allowing you to grow and expand your product. You are able to do this my visiting specific venues, getting a feel for what

they’re like, taking photographs, looking over these, deliberating with yourself what you want and why, even

perhaps making your final decision based on the information you have gained from taking your Recce images.
