INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CALCUTTA

Rebooting your Strategy: Converting the digital threat to a Strategic Opportunity INTRODUCTION:The rapid rise of digital technologies and digitization of customer experiences is redrawing industry boundaries and traditional value chain relations among businesses. Senior managers and entrepreneurs need new tools to make sense of this novel threat/risk that raises specter of disruption on one hand and is the source of new business models and massive new opportunities on the other. Embracing digitization at the strategic level is much beyond adoption of few digital or social media tools in various organizational functions. Coping with the digital threat requires an integrated response built around understanding of the emerging digital landscape. It involves fundamental shifts in the understanding of competition, forging of new digital relationships, new models of financing and often significant changes in internal organizing. Organizations that can clearly map the emerging shift and reboot their strategies stand to make windfall gains in the coming decade, either by building new defenses and moats around their existing business or foraying into new uncharted waters.
