    PROVIDENCE EXCHANGE STATION

    Architectural Design Studio, Spring 2014

An exploration into the use of rhythm in designing space, the initial analysis

of site was completed to observe audible rhythms, like the sound of a split

    flap display and the trains; visual rhythms, the regimented pattern of tracks;

and environment, the movement of people and trains the resultant is a grain

and a rhythmic core created by the interactions and layering of rhythm.

The new Exchange Station has been situated to draw people in across

the rhythmic core of the site connecting the rhythms of the site with the

surrounding city. Like the layering of rhythms in music, the Exchange Station

is intended to create spaces that harmonize and spaces that simply coexist.

  • IMPROVISATIONAL THEATRE

    Design Principles Studio, Fall 2013

Theatre provides an opportunity for what could be called integration,

the discarding of masks, the revealing of the real substance: a totality of

physical and mental reactions Jerzy Grotowski

Where the rhythms of space and movement intersect exists an opportunity

to experience a heightened sense of self.

Through the design of space and path, the improvisational theatre becomes

a place of harmony a place where environment and user engage in the

    act of discarding and revealing.

The relationship between stage and audience is intimate but detached.

The stage is gradually separated from seating, encouraging the spectator

to become conscious of the gap; conscious of the performance, position

and the dynamic that exists in between.

A ramp is created as an intermission space, serving as both an opportunity

for pause and an object of transmission. It travels from inside to outside,

lower to higher; emerging and revealing itself and the user.

I went to college to become a sneaker designer (or teacher, or psychologist) and of course to keep my

WNBA dreams alive. I came out a graphic designer with a history minor. I spent the next four years living and

working in Washington, D.C. as a senior designer for Qorvis, where I specialized in branding, interactive,

advertising and event design. My passion for learning and design led me to the Rhode Island School of

Design where I am currently pursuing my Masters in Architecture. I believe that good design has purpose,

    and curiosity drives my creativity.
