REF : WELDING CALCULATION FOR REBAR JOIN
Sheet No : 1 of 1Date : 4 March 2013Designed by : Utaya KumarChecked by : Jeffrey Yu
Objective : Calculate and proposed welding length to rejoin the Rebar
Design Assumption
1. These designs have been done based on BS5990-1:2000.2. Main Bar size = 𝜙 20 mm3. Designed yield strength of reinforcement bar and shear link = 460 N/mm2.4. Fillet Weld Size = 6 mm.5. Allowable Stress for Grade 43 steel fillet weld = 115 N/mm2.6. Strength for Grade 43 steel fillet weld = 805 N/mm2.
Calculation
A. Main Rebar
Fillet Weld Size = 6 mm
Throat Length, a = 0.7 x 6 mm= 4.2 mm
Length required for welding, Lw = 460×
π×202
4805×0.8
= 224 mm
Effective length of weld for both sides = 2242
= 112 mm≃ 115 mm
Actual length of weld for both sides = 115 + (2 x 6)= 127 mm
Distribute = 127 + (2 x 6) 2= 75.5 mm
∴ Required Welding length for T20 = 75.5 mm each side.
Proposed Welding Length for T20 = 80 mm each side.
