Design Assumption
1. These designs have been done based on BS5950-1:2000 & BS8110-1:1997.2. Main Bar size= 16 mm3. Designed yield strength of reinforcement bar and shear link= 460 N/mm2.4. Fillet Weld Size= 6 mm.5. Allowable Stress for Grade 43 steel fillet weld= 115 N/mm2.6. Strength for Grade 43 steel fillet weld= 215 N/mm2.
Calculation
A. Main RebarThroat Length, a= 0.7 x 6 mm= 4.2 mm
Fillet Weld Strength= 215 x 4.2= 903 N/mm
Length required for welding, Lw= = 89.10 mm
Effective length of weld for both sides= = 44.55 mm 50 mm
Actual length of weld for both sides = 50 + (2 x 6)= 62 mm
Distribute= 62 + (2 x 6) 2= 43 mm Lwp 60 mm( 5)
Therefore, Rebar Strength, Pst= 0.87fyAs= = 80464.98 N 80.46 kN
Required Welding length for T16, Lw =
= = 164 mm
Proposed welding length = (60 2(6)) x 4 = 192 mm 164 mm (OK!)
