Decentralized Staining Concept

Blood samples from collectioncentres that operate in resourcepoor settings, age by the time asthey are shipped to c entralizedtesting facilities. CD receptors areknown to undergo a process calledcapping (internalization of

receptors), with sample ageing.

Dry reagents enable staining tobe done in collection centres thattypically have no electricity torun refrigeration units. Stainedsamples can then be transportedwithout the need for cold chain.

The decentralized approach tosample processing mitigates therisk associated with variation incell counts. Studies on samplesstained and xed using dry re-

agents have shown that there is nodrop in staining intensity or cellcount upto 8 days when stored atroom temperature.
