BASIS AND FACTS DISTANCE LEARNING TRAINING

CROP PROTECTION TRAINING

We Offer :

Diploma level UK course in crop protection that covers all aspects of crop protection including the law and regulations governing the use of pesticides; identification of major weeds, pests and diseases and the main control methods including herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and biological control agents. Training on the use of pesticides includes application, sprayer design, pesticide storage design and management, and environmental safety measures. See www.realipm.com for syllabus.

Diploma level UK course in fertilizer use that covers all aspects of fertilizer use including the law and regulations, soils in relation to plant nutrition, nature and types of fertilizers, crop nutrients, use of fertilizers, transport, storage and handling of fertilizers, application techniques and relevant codes of GAP relating to fertilizers.

Resistance Management – (2 days) up to 10 staff –General Managers, Company Agronomists and Farm Owners.How to: assess effectiveness of current spray programmes; review resistance management status of current crop protection; cost the farm crop protection programme; devise a crop protection programme with resistance management mechanisms (FRAC and IRAC compliant) for low, medium and high pest and disease pressures; integrate biological controls and chemicals in an IPM programme.

IPM Field Skills (3 days) up to 15 staff – Scouts and supervisorsHow to: identify pests, diseases and beneficials, scout, apply beneficials, mark hot spots, and record information.

IPM Field Management training (1 day) up to 15 staff – Managers/AgronomistsHow to: interpret scouting data, supervise IPM programmes, make compatible spray programmes, measure and control risk in IPM programmes

One day Modular IPM Courses based on specific company needs covering up to 3 different modules – pest and disease identification, biocontrol identification, scout-ing, application of biocontrols, biocontrol conservation (field insectaries) and economic thresholds. Select 3 topics per day.

Identification of pests and disease for pack‐house staff (1 day) groups of 25 staff.How to: identify relevant pests and disease and record information to inform crop protection managers of the efficacy of their programmes.

Plant Propagation – health scheme design (1 day) up to 15 staffHow to: Integrate cultural, physical, biological and chemical controls to reduce contamination of young plants with pests and diseases (Agrobacterium, mites, Fusarium , Erwinia, Rhizoctonia etc)

Nematode Management Programmes (1 day) up to 15 staffHow to: identify nematode infections, take soil and water samples, count nematode levels and interpret results, nematicide options and how to apply them; biological control options; physical and cultural controls. Design of IPM programmes and reduction in the use of nematicides.

Disease Management Programmes (1 day) up to 15 staffHow to: identify diseases and learn how and where they come from, in order to design IPM programmes to keep them from causing economic damage. Integrate fungicides and biological control agents to reduce the build‐up of resistance and improve crop protection.

SAFE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF PESTICIDESSafe Use of Pesticides ‐ Spray Operators Introduction Course (2 days) up to 25 staff.How to: interpret pesticide labels, use PPE properly, handle equiment and ensure personal safety including first aid for emergencies. This course is especially prepared for new spray operators/pesticide handlers.
