Representatives from the College of Business traveled to Bogota, Colombia to host an international open house, which attracted over 300 interested applicants and an alumni networking event at Galería Café Libro to reconnect with Business alumni.

President Obama addresses FIU community during nationally televised Town Hall on Immigration

Florida International University (FIU) made history on February 25th with the visit of President Barack Obama to our Modesto A. Maidique campus for an immigration town hall organized by MSNBC and Telemundo. Our FIU students were front and center during the town hall, asking questions of President Obama and discussing their views with news media.

Executive & Professional Education Brings 32 Students from Brazil to FIU for Two Week Inbound Study Program

The Office of Executive & Professional Education offered a two-week inbound study program in International Business for 32 students from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM) in Brazil. The two week program ran from January 20-30, 2015 at the Masters’ level with a combination of classroom lectures delivered by FIU professors and company visits, including UPS Cargo, Walmart, Itaú Private Bank and Crispin, Porter + Bogusky. The ESPM students also got a chance to experience FIU’s school spirit by attending an FIU basketball game at the arena and had an opportunity for cultural exchange with international dual degree business student ambassadors.

Michael A. Garcia (MSMIS ’12, BBA ’99), graduate of Florida International University’s (FIU) College of Business, who serves as Jackson’s vice president and chief information officer led Jackson Health System in Miami to earn their “Stage 6 Recognition” on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM) at each of their hospitals in March, 2015. This award puts Jackson into the top 18 percent of hospitals nationwide that have achieved this level of information management success. Click here to read full article

A cheering audience at the 65th Annual State Leadership Conference for the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) welcomed two Florida International University (FIU) College of Business students into state-wide leadership roles. Kevin Carballe, an FIU junior majoring in marketing, was elected Florida FBLA-PBL president, and Elizabeth Alvarez, a sophomore majoring in finance and management, was named parliamentarian at the conference, held in Orlando on March 26-28, 2015. FBLA-PBL at FIU students were also recognized many times at the awards ceremony.

College of Business students show off their sales savvy in two languages

Hollo School graduate students again capture third place in ARGUS Software university challenge

For the second time in three years, a team of graduate students from the Hollo School of Real Estate at Florida International University (FIU) captured third place in the ARGUS Software’s University Challenge. “When a university team scores high one time, you might think it’s luck. But when it happens again to another team from the same university, you know it’s because the academic program is strong,” said Zhonghua Wu, associate professor who served as advisor for the team. “In the Hollo School of Real Estate, we have a culture of success in place that enables students to achieve excellence.” Click here to read full article

FIU’s College of Business tackled the art of selling hands-on by using role-playing techniques where 42 students in the FIU Professional Sales Program participated in the annual Sales Tournament. At the March 6 event, they were tasked with selling an iPhone 6 Plus to a medical facility executive during a 15-minute in-person meeting. All of the buyers and judges in the competition were executives from Miami-based companies. This year, the sales tournament introduced a Spanish-language track, where the selling and buying conversation was conducted in-language and students were judged by local Hispanic sales executives.

FIU student marketing agency and AMA chapter score high-profile clients and national awards

At the 2015 American Marketing Association (AMA) International Collegiate Competition, held March 19-21 in New Orleans, the FIU chapter moved into the No. 2 spot in the organization’s ranking of its 350 collegiate chapters in U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The FIU team captured 1st place overall for its “Be the Match” integrated marketing campaign for the Bone Marrow Foundation, which included research, social media, on-campus initiatives, and fundraising. Additionally, the team came in at No. 1 for the best social media and best video components and at No. 2 for the best “Be the Match” event.

New non-degree seeking international exchange business students arrive at FIU

The Office of International Affairs & Projects (IAP) welcomed five new non-degree seeking international exchange business students from Munich Business School in Germany. They participated in a welcome session where they met the IAP team and international student ambassadors, as well as getting acclimated to their new environment.

Students go sightseeing on Big Bus Miami city tour

After settling in at FIU, the non-degree seeking international exchange business students, our international student ambassadors and a few international dual degree business students participated in a Big Bus Miami city tour visiting Downtown, Bayside, Coconut Grove, Little Havana, South Beach and the Wynwood Art District areas.

Dual degree business students participate in optional practical training workshop

The Office of International Affairs & Projects and International Student & Scholar Services Office collaborated to present an optional practical training (OPT) workshop specifically for international dual degree business students to learn about their options to work in the U.S. after graduation. Approximately 25 students attended the workshop and gained knowledge to help them prepare for life after graduation and obtaining their OPT.

Students learn about FIU College of Business study abroad program options worldwide

Undergraduate and graduate students at FIU’s College of Business (COB) received an in-depth look at the college’s international study abroad programs and how to apply for COB’s Masters Programs, including Masters of International Business (MIB), International Masters of Business Administration (IMBA) & the Masters of Science in Finance (MSF) at the international study opportunities fair.

IAP Collaborates with FIU’s Cultural Clubs and ISSS Office to Host International Game Night

The Office of International Affairs & Projects (IAP), International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) and several cultural clubs at FIU, including the International Student Club, Por Colombia, Asian Student Union, Peruvian Culture Club, Caribbean Students Association, Arab Student Union, African Student Organization and European Student Association collaborated to celebrate FIU’s diversity by hosting an international game night. Over 100 international and domestic students attended playing over 20 international and cultural games.

Students Explore the Florida Everglades on Safari Airboat Tour

International dual degree and non-degree seeking business exchange students participated in one of the most exotic and breathtaking sightseeing tours of the Florida’s Everglades, where they saw a vast array of alligators, crocodiles, birds and other wildlife that inhabit the subtropical ecosystem.

FIU Students Connect with Students at Universidad ESAN in Peru and Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Argentina for a Connecting Countries Videochat

The Office of International Affairs & Projects collaborated with the Office of Global Learning to connect our own FIUand international dual degree business students via videochat with students at Universidad ESAN in Peru and Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Argentina to discuss globalization and global citizenship trends and their impact in the current labor market.
