CSU Proficiency Requirements

+ENGLISH REQUIREMENTExemptions from the English Proficiency Test (EPT):

-SAT Verbal/Critical Reading score is 500 or higher.

-English ACT score is 22 or higher.

-AP Language and Composition or AP Composition and Literature score is 3 or higher.

-International Baccalaureate English test score is 4 or higher.

-EAP Score is “EXEMPT.”

-EAP Score is “CONDITIONALLY EXEMPT” status is met.Students must successfully complete a senior year CSU approved English course.

English Proficiency Test (EPT)• You can only take the test ONCE.

• A score of 147 is passing.

• The exam is $18.

+MATH REQUIREMENTExemptions from the Entry Level Math (ELM)

-SAT Math score is 550 or higher.

-ACT Math score is 23 or higher.

-AP Math score is 3 or higher.

-International Baccalaureate math test score is 4 or higher.

-EAP Score is “EXEMPT.”

-EAP Score is “CONDITIONALLY EXEMPT” status is met. Students must successfully complete a senior year CSU approved math course.

Entry Level Math Exam Policies

• You can only test once in each testing window.

• Make sure to check your CSU campus policy and deadlines first before taking the ELM multiple times.

• A score of 50 is passing.• The exam is $18.

Additional Pathway• CSU anticipates fewer students demonstrating

readiness due to the change in the structure of the assessment.• This may increase the number of students

needing remediation and to take placement tests.• CSU wants to ensure all students receive a fair

assessment of their college readiness status.

Additional Pathway• CSU will use SAT/ACT results to indicate a

conditional college-ready status in English and mathematics.• Encourage students to take SAT/ACT in the

junior year• This allows for students to be placed in

appropriate senior year English and/or mathematics courses.
