Gospel: Mark 13: 24-32
Dear Parishioners, This week, a very dear and much valued parishioner passed away, Bernie O'Hara. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go to Jill and all the family. We are most grateful for all that
Bernie, and Jill, have done for our parish over many years. May his soul rest in peace. His funeral will take place next Monday at 10am in Mary Immaculate church. Several people have made recently or will be making soon their first Holy Communion at the 9:00am Sunday EF Mass. We wish to congratulate them, and their families, and we pray that our own faith and love for the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist may increase as we are reminded of our own first reception of the Sacrament.
in Christ, Fr Scot Anthony Armstrong
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
We will remember them.
LEST WE FORGET

Reflection It is an old custom with the servants of God always to have some little prayers ready, and to be darting them up to heaven frequently during the day, lifting their minds to God from out of the filth of this world. He who adopts this plan will get great fruit with little pains.
St Philip Neri
Vices and Opposite Virtues, continued: "Avarice (love of money) and its opposite virtue-Generosity. Love of wealth is not part of man's original nature, but appears as a distortion of our desire for eternal life. The acquisition of wealth becomes an end in itself, and leads to various sins, and gives the illusion of self-sufficiency as we come to rely solely on material goods. 'Wealth is not a bad thing, but avarice and love of money are. The covetous man is not rich, he is in want.' (St John Chrysostom) The virtue of generosity and its concrete expression, almsgiving, make us capable of properly managing material goods and growing rich in God. 'That which is more precious than millions of money, that is, alms....Why then do we, to the neglect of our own selves, waste our attention on those things, which when we are gone we can no longer reach, and often while we stay here we cannot keep hold of, when we might have such riches as to be found not in this life only, but also in that...?' (St John Chrysostom)."
Tuesday Rosary: On all Tuesdays in November, the Holy Rosary is recited for those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them! And for the Pope, the Bishops and the Priests, through the intercession of Our Lady of Grace. It begins 10 minutes after the 7am Mass in Mary Immaculate Church. All welcome. In honour of Remembrance Day today, Sunday 11th November, a public Remembrance walk will commence at 9.45am at
Yeronga Memorial Park, from the Park Rd Memorial Gates and will proceed up Honour Ave to the cenotaph in honour of the 96 locals who did not return from WW1. En route the names of soldiers from Stephens Shire who did not return will be announced by school age children. A Remembrance Day Service will then commence at 10:30am at the cenotaph. It has been suggested that those at 9:00am Mass could go straight there at the conclusion of Mass.
Vespers will be sung this afternoon (Sunday 11th November) at 4:00pm in Mary Immaculate church.
All are invited to the Missa cantata next Saturday 17th November at Saint Patrick’s, Mt Perry, at 10:30am. Rosary and
Confessions from 9:30am. Please bring food for a shared lunch in the Town Hall following Mass.
Special thanks to Nicole King for organising the Remembrance Day Ball. It is great that we can have such functions as another way to bring us together as a community. Thanks to all who helped Nicole in any way, and a special thank you the sponsor of the evening, GreenGrove indoor plant hire. Ticket prices were kept as low as possible so as not to prevent people from being able to attend, but any profits remaining once the expenses have been paid will support the Brisbane Oratory, and will assist us with the costs of training of our five Brothers for the priesthood.
The next Secular Oratory for men takes place on Thursday 13th December, 7:30pm in Mary Immaculate church, and will
be led by Father Armstrong. Father Adrian | [email protected] | 0427 109 054

MASS READINGS
First Reading: 1Kings 17:10-16
Elijah the Prophet went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks; addressing her he said, ‘Please bring a little water in a vessel for me to drink.’ She was setting off to bring it when he called after her. ‘Please’ he said ‘bring me a scrap of bread in your hand.’ ‘As the Lord your God lives,’ she replied ‘I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick of two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, and then we shall die.’ But Elijah said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of it for me and ring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son. For thus the Lord speaks, the God of Israel; “Jar of meal shall not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied, before the day when the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth.”’ The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son. The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as the Lord had foretold through Elijah.
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm 145 (Said by all)
It is the Lord who keeps faith for ever, who is just to those who are oppressed. It is he who gives bread to the hungry, the Lord, who sets prisoners free.
It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind, who raises up those who are bowed down. It is the Lord who loves the just, the Lord, who protects the stranger.
The Lord upholds the widow and orphan but thwarts the path of the wicked. The Lord will reign for ever, Zion’s God, from age to age.
Second Reading: Hebrews 9:24-28
It is not as though Christ had entered a man-made sanctuary which was only modelled on the real one; but it was heaven itself, so that he could appear in the actual presence of God on our behalf. And he does not have to offer himself again and again, like the high priest going into the sanctuary year after year with the blood that is not his own, or else he would have to suffer over and over again since the world began. Instead of that, he has made his appearance once and for all, now at the end of the last age, to do away with sin by sacrificing himself. Since men only die once, and after the judgment, so Christ, too, offers himself only once to take the faults of many on himself, and when he appears a second time, it will not to be to deal with sin but to reward with salvation those who are waiting for him.

Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia! Happy the poor in spirit; the
kingdom of heaven is theirs! Alleluia!
Gospel: Mark 12:38-44
In his teaching he said, `Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes, to be greeted obsequiously in the market squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets; these are the men who swallow the property of widows, while making a show of lengthy prayers. The more severe will be the sentence they receive.'
He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in a great deal. A poor widow came and put in two small coins, the equivalent of a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, `I tell you solemnly, this poor widow has put more in than all who have contributed to the treasury; for they have all put in money they had over, but she from the little she had has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on'.
