Hello boys and girls I hope you are all enjoying the time at home with your families and keeping safe. Miss Hollings has been keeping busy, doing all the activities set from last week. I wonder… did you manage to make the butterfly buns? Miss Hollings made some, they were DELICIOUS! Here are some more activities for you to have a go at. I have split them up into different days and done a little timetable for you. Hope this helps. There are 5 activities for each day! Miss Hollings has also sneaked some challenges in there too, make sure you look out for them. READ, READ, READ! Each day I have attached a link to one of my favourite stories for you to enjoy too. KEEP SAFE and ENJOY!! Miss Hollings Reading: I cannot stress enough how important this is. Please keep reading to your child. An effective process for this would be to: - Discuss the front page- What do you think is going to happen, what can you see. - Go through the different pages of the story- ask the children to predict what is happening on each page. - Then you read the story- were your child’s predictions correct, what do you think happens next - What did they like best about the story.

Hello boys and girls

I hope you are all enjoying the time at home with your families and

keeping safe.

Miss Hollings has been keeping busy, doing all the activities set from

last week. I wonder… did you manage to make the butterfly buns?

Miss Hollings made some, they were DELICIOUS!

Here are some more activities for you to have a go at. I have split

them up into different days and done a little timetable for you. Hope

this helps. There are 5 activities for each day! Miss Hollings has also

sneaked some challenges in there too, make sure you look out for

them.

to your child.

An effective process for this would be to:

- Discuss the front page- What do you think is going to happen, what can

you see.

- Go through the different pages of the story- ask the children to predict

what is happening on each page.

- Then you read the story- were your child’s predictions correct,

what do you think happens next

- What did they like best about the story.

Potato stamps

Can you create a farm picture using potato stamps?

1. Cut a large potato in half. Press the cookie cutter into the center of

the potato. Then, leaving the cookie cutter in the potato, slice a

rather thick slice around the pattern of the cookie cutter. Remove

the outer layer of potato and then the cookie cutter from the

shape. Make sure your potato is dry, wipe away any moisture.

2. Apply paint evenly using a brush roller onto the pattern.

3. Have a scrap piece of paper handy to test your print and remove any

excess paint.

4. Simply press your potato stamp down on the paper you want to

decorate. A few prints and you will know exactly how hard to press

to get the effect you desire.

Tuesday- Phonics- Alliteration

Draw pirates, dinosaurs, monsters, witches and robots. This activity

is really good for mark making. You can draw these on paper, or what

about using big chalks on the ground outside, or big pens on wallpaper.

Allow the children to draw things that suit having a silly name like a

dinosaur or monster. Be as imaginative as you like.

When you child has drawn them, give them silly alliterative names. So

the robot could be ‘Biggy Baggy Beggy Boggy’. There is no right or

wrong. Chant the target sound at them, and emphasise like crazy!

Tuesday- Literacy

Diary: What did you do on Monday? Can you write about it and draw

a picture. I wonder what you had for lunch and where you went on

your walk. Maybe you spoke with a family member on the phone.

(Remember to let your children mark make and then ask the children to read it

back to you, and you can scribe. Questioning throughout is great i.e. Where did

we walk to? What was your favourite part of the day?)

Tongue Twister

Children find tongue twisters hilarious and they are also great

for ironing out speech and language issues, as well as being an

excellent medium to teach alliteration. In Nursery we like to

add actions too.

An example would be:

Little lamps are leaping! (All jump around like lambs)

Little lambs are lazy. (Lie down)

Little lambs are lonely. (All be sad)

Little lambs are lost…etc etc

Challenge: Can you think of your own tongue twisters using

your name?

Page 10: Reading: I cannot stress enough how important this is ... · Monday: Phonics Odd one out- Starting sound. Three of the four pictures begin with the same sound. Pick the odd one out.

Wednesday: Literacy

Finger print your name- If your child knows the

letters that make up their name, allow them to

do this independently, if not, write their

name on a large piece of paper, encourage

your child to mimic the direction that it is

written.

Challenge: Can you finger print your

numbers too?

Spring Jelly

On your daily walk collect all things

spring- flowers and leaves. You may

even want to collect twigs, bark, grass,

pebbles etc.

You will need:

Vegetable Gelatine ( I used 3 sachets of vege-gel for a mixing bowl sized jelly)

Cold Water (1 pint per sachet)

Whisk or spoon

Pan

Container/s (we used a pyrex bowl but you could use small bowls, cups or jelly moulds)

Things you collected on your walk

Instructions:

Put 1 pint of cold water per sachet into a pan

Add the gelatine and whisk

Bring the liquid to the boil (it will begin to thicken a little bit as it get to boiling

point)

Being VERY careful, pour the boiling liquid into your bowl/mould/moulds

Let the liquid cool for 30 – 45 mins then start to add your leaves etc. You should

find that you are able to spread them about a bit more as the liquid is thicker

and cooler. I found that some items sank to the bottom regardless!

Leave to set – this only takes a couple of hours

Turn out onto a tray

Let your child explore!
