Dolphins are very intelligent sea mammals. They are found worldwide, mostly in shallow areas of tropical and temperate oceans. Five species live in the world's rivers. They live in social groups of five to several hundred. They mostly eat fish and squid. Dolphin coloration varies, but they are generally grey in colour with darker backs than the rest of their bodies. Most dolphins live long lives. The bottlenose dolphin can live over 40 years, and the orca can live up to 70 years. Rhinos once roamed many places throughout Eurasia and Africa and were known to the ancient Europeans who depicted them in cave paintings. But today very few rhinos survive outside national parks and reserves. Two species of rhino in Asia– Javan and Sumatran – are critically endangered. A subspecies of the Javan rhino was declared extinct in Vietnam in 2011. A small population of the Javan rhino still survives on the Indonesian island of Java. Successful conservation efforts have helped the third Asian species, the Indian rhino, to increase in number. Their status was changed from endangered to vulnerable, but the species is still poached for its horn.

    4. It is written in the passage that rhinos ----.

    A) aren’t listed as an endangered species today B) live in great numbers in Asia due to

conservation efforts C) have already gone extinct on Java Island D) were hunted by the ancient Europeans to a

Alcohol moves very quickly into the blood without being broken down in your stomach. Within five minutes of having a drink, there's enough alcohol in your blood to measure. 30 to 90 minutes after having a drink, the alcohol in your bloodstream is at its highest level. Your liver does most of the job of breaking down it once it's in your body. If you weigh 68 kg, it will take about 2 hours to metabolize a beer or mixed drink. If you drink alcohol faster than your liver can break it down, the excess alcohol moves through your bloodstream to other parts of your body. Brain cells are easy targets. When someone talks about getting a buzz from alcohol, this is what they are feeling. 1. According to the passage, ----.

    A) alcohol affects only specific centres in the brain B) the long-term effects of alcohol on the brain

can be even more damaging C) a person's vision becomes blurry when

drinking alcohol D) the blood carries the alcohol throughout the

body E) alcohol dependence causes emotional and

    physical problems

    2. We can infer from the passage that ----. A) drinking alcohol can make some health

conditions worse B) the time needed to break down the alcohol in

the blood depends on one's weight C) heavy drinking over time can hurt your liver D) if you have high blood pressure, you can lower

it when you stop drinking alcohol E) alcohol affects how the liver clears fat from the

    blood

    3. It is clearly stated in the passage that the liver ----. A) is responsible for metabolizing the alcohol in

the bloodstream B) helps the body to get rid of waste products

such as alcohol C) tries to break down alcohol and the resulting

chemical reaction can damage its cells D) cannot even cope with drinking a small amount

of alcohol E) gradually loses its ability to function well when

    alcohol is consumed excessively

Organic and conventional food must meet the same quality and safety standards. Organic food differs from conventionally produced food simply in the way it is grown, handled and processed. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that it is more nutritious or safer than conventional food. A recently published report indicates that organic food is less likely to contain pesticide residues than conventional food. Yet, according to a study, the traces of pesticides left on conventionally grown products are unlikely to cause an increased cancer risk. Also, if fruits and vegetables are properly washed, most of the chemicals can be removed.

    4. One can understand from the passage that organic food, when compared to conventional one, ----.

    A) costs more due to its quality B) involves an increased cancer risk C) proves to be fairly nutritious D) is far safer and healthier E) contains a smaller amount of pesticides

    5. According to the passage, it is true that ----.

    A) insecticides used to protect crops from pests and disease cause cancer

    B) prices tend to be higher for organic food than conventional one

    C) one can get rid of pesticide residues on foods with proper washing

    D) an organic food is a product grown or made according to some very strict standards

    E) neither organic nor conventional food is healthy to eat

    6. It is clear from the passage that ----.

    A) organic food doesn't contain chemicals like herbicides or insecticides

    B) the processing of organic and conventional food is different from each other

    C) studies show that conventional food is grown in the same way as its organic counterpart

    D) traces of pesticides cannot be removed from conventionally grown fruits and vegetables

    E) scientific evidence confirms that the nutritional value of organic food is higher
