OntheoccasionoftheexhibitionRendez-vous 13,theRhône-AlpesRegiondecidedtosetupanawardforyoungartists.Ajurymadeofexpertswillawardoneartist,amongthetenartistsparticipatingfromtheRegion.

WiththeRhône-Alpesawardforyoungartists,thisartistwillbenefitfroma5000€grant,whichwillofferhimaresidencyinBruxellesfollowedbyashowattheRegionRhone-Alpes’spaceinBruxelles.

Thejury,chairedbyAnne-ClaireSchmitz(directoroftheLoge,Bruxelles),andcomposedbyDanielFirman(artist)andChristineJamart(chiefeditoratL’artmême),willmeetonSeptember9th.TheselectedartistwillbeawardedduringtheopeningoftheexhibitionRendez-vous 13byFaridaBoudaoud,Vice-PresidentoftheRhône-AlpesRegioncouncil,inchargeofculturalaffairsandfightagainstdiscrimination.

Createdin1984,theMuseumofContemporaryArtofLyonsetupinDecember1995attheCitéInternationale,builtbyRenzoPiano.Itoffersthreelevelsofexhibitionofatotalsurfaceareaof2700m2.

Throughafullyflexibleinterior

volume,ittransformsitselfforeachartisticproject:anewmuseumreopensforeachexhibition!

Theexhibitions,oftenco-produced

withinternationalinstitutions,dealwitheveryformsofmodernity:fromsound(laMonteYoung,LaurieAnderson,JohnCage)toinstallation(SophieCalle,CaiGuoQiang),fromchoreography(AnnaHalprin,TrishaBrown)topainting(MarcDesgrandchamps,KeithHaring,RobertCombas),fromvideo(BillViola)toperformance(JanFabre).

Sinceitscreation,theMuseuminauguratesasingularpoliticsasregardscollection:itcollectsexhibitions,whichareproducedincloseco-operationwithartists.Therearecurrentlymorethanthousandworksofartinitscollectionwhichincludesalargenumberofmonumentalworks.

Everytwoyears,theMuseum

welcomestheLyonBiennial,itsartisticdirectionbeingentrustedtoThierryRaspail,directorofmacLYON.

INSTITUT D’ART CONTEMPORAIN, VILLEURBANNE / RHÔNE-ALPES

Afacilityforcreation,experimentationandresearchincontemporaryart,theInstitutd’artcontemporain(IAC)holdsexhibitionsandmeetingsin situ,combinedwiththeassemblingofacollectionofinternationalexposure.Itextendsresearchthroughex situexhibitions,byshowingitscollectionthroughouttheRhône-Alpesregion,inFranceandbeyond.

ThesoloexhibitionistheclosesttotheartistandhisworkandisabasicprincipleofeventsatIAC(SaâdaneAfif,JoachimKoester,AnthonyMcCall,LaurentMontaron,MattMullican,BojanŠarčević…).Groupandthemeexhibitionsfocusontheissuesofcreativearttoday;thesearemoreexperimentalandoccasional(Fabricateursd’espaces,1966-79...).

ThecollectionoftheIAC,closelylinkedwithinsituexhibitions,consistsinmorethan1,700worksfromnationalandinternationalartists,partofthelargestpubliccollectionsinFrance.Thecollectionincludesworksfrommajorartistsofourtime(DanielBuren,JimmieDurham,DanGraham,AnishKapoor,OnKawara,RichardLong,MarioMerz,GerhardRichter,MarthaRosler,JeffWall,LawrenceWeiner…)andbyup-and-comingartists(AlainBublex,UllavonBrandenburg,PierreHuyghe,AnnVeronicaJanssens,JoachimKoester,AnriSala,CareyYoung...).Additionsinthecollectionarecloselylinkedwith in situexhibitions.
