Summary
This is a matter of happiness that every Muslim organization in the country has openly
supported surgical strike by the Indian Army against terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied
Kashmir. The Muslim community even protested against Pakistan at several places in the
country. As far as Urdu newspapers are concerned, most of them though supported surgical
strike but with the suggestion that the government should solve disputed issues with Pakistan
by dialogues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed Muslims as his own in the Kerala National Executive of
the BJP by calling upon to solve their problems and development of the community with a faster
pace. This was mostly welcomed by the Urdu newspaper. But some radical newspapers wrote in
their editorial that the PM was speaking in that language to garner Muslim votes in the
forthcoming elections.
This is really very sad to mention that some of the journalists of the country live in India but they
don't hesitate out rightly supporting Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Leader of Hurriyat
Conference Ali Shah Gilani's son-in-law recently sent three journalists to Kashmir Valley and
one of them wrote a long letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he openly supported
Pakistan on Kashmir issue.
Controversy over Muslim Personal Law has failed to peter out. The fact is that a big section of
Muslim is raising voice against radicals. Several organizations of Muslim women had gone to the
Supreme Court against triple talaq. Muslim Personal Board has stuck to its stand that the
government and courts don't have any right to interfere into the matters of Muslim Personal Law
because as they are made by Allah and Quran. The question is that if over hundreds of Islamic
countries make amendments in this law what is the problem in implementing Common Civil
Code in India?

Dainik Siyasat on October 1 reported that the biggest Islamic educational institution Darul Uloom,
Deoband openly supported surgical strike by the Army in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Spokesperson
of Darul Uloom Ashraf Usmani said, “When it comes to the matter of national interest, we are with the
government.” However, chief of Darul Uloom Abul Qasim Nomani refused to comment on it by
saying that he was visiting rural India so he was not aware of the current situation. I study things
minutely and passing any comment is not justified. But Darul Uloom spokesperson supported the
Army action in POK full throttle and said that the Army did a brave action. And the need is to keep
taking such tough actions against Pakistan in future as well.
Barelwi sect also supported the action taken by the Army. General Secretary of Jamat e Mukta Maulana
Shahabuddin Razvi said that Pakistan was spreading terror in Kashmir and to break their back the
action taken by the Army had open support of Muslims of the country. Islam is against terrorism and
killing of innocent people.
According to Dainik Sahafat (October 1), the main Sufi in Maharashtra Maulana Syed Alamgir Ashraf
said, “We appreciate steps taken by the Indian Army against terrorists. The Narendra Modi
government has done the right thing and Muslims across the country are with him.”
Hamara Samaj in its editorial on October 7 supported surgical strike and congratulated the Indian
Army for the tough action taken by them. The newspaper alleged politics was being done on surgical
strike and the BJP wanted to use this in the forthcoming elections. The Congress said that they too did
several surgical strikes but never found it appropriate for propaganda. The newspaper said that the
BJP must not take benefit of the surgical strike for election gains.
Dainik Etemaad however on October 1 supported surgical strike but appealed both the countries that
they must not take any action in hurry to jeopardize peace in the sub-continent. India and Pakistan both
the countries have atomic bomb therefore war would have mass devastation.
According to Hindustan Express (October 1), vice president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Imran Masood
supported surgical strike by saying that any praise to the Indian Army was less.
Hindustan Express in the same edition supporting surgical strike said that Indian Army had answered
Pakistan by surgical attack on terrorist hide outs in POK. The newspaper expressed hope that Pakistan
would learn a lesson from it and would take action against the terrorist camps functioning from its areas.
Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on September 30 supported surgical strike by congratulating the
government and Prime Minister Modi. Besides that the newspaper emphasized that both the countries
must tread with caution and prudence because war would bring devastation in both the countries.
Inquilab on October 1 published four news reports in this regard in which it was reported that Indian
Muslims protested against Pakistan at several places. In the same issue Inquilab supported surgical

strike by saying that this had stunned Pakistan and the country did not have any other option but to
deny the fact that any such action had taken place involving Indian Army. The newspaper reported
that Pakistan did not imagine after Uri attack that Indian Army would take tough action against
Pakistan. But the newspaper warned that Pakistan mastermind a big terror attack in India to avenge
Indian action.
According to Dainik Inquilab (October 4), Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari appealed to India and
Pakistan that they must take due caution and settle the controversial matters with dialogue because
war was not solution to any problem. In case of war both the country would be devastated.
II
Country starts Islamic Bank
According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (September 21), Islamic Banking started in India. The first
branch of Islamic Bank has been opened in the name of Lokmangal Bank in Solapur, Maharashtra.
Muslims depositing money in Islamic bank will not get interest and loan would also be interest free.
This is to recall that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced through his 'Mann Ki Baat' that Islamic
Bank would be started in India. Reserve Bank of India proposed to open such banking before the
government. The Centre approved this on September 21 after that Maharashtra became the first state to
open such bank. Chairman of this bank is Cooperative marketing and industry minister Rohan
Subhash Deshmukh.
Since both giving and taking interest as per Islam is a sin therefore interest would neither be paid nor
taken in Islamic banks. Profit of the bank will be distributed among its members. As per Islamic rules,
the money of this bank will not be spent on non-Islamic purposes. Several Islamic nations have given
the responsibility to run these banks to Islamic scholars who supervise these banks. The first Islamic
bank across the world was started in Malaysia in 1983 and the total capital of this Islamic bank was
around $16 lakh crore. As per Islamic laws, in case of profit or loss both who had taken debt and who
gave away debt would have to share equally.

Radicals in a tizzy over development works done
among Muslims
Opinion of the Prime Minister expressed in the national executive of the BJP in Kerala over Muslims
was published by most of the newspapers as the main news report.
Hamara Samaj on September 26 gave headline – Muslims don't consider themselves as vote bank. Aim
of the government is the development of the last person in the queue.
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 5
According to Dainik Siyasat (September 30), the Central government started programme of contacting
Muslims. Union minority works minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced in a rally in Mewat that
the Modi government was going to constitute a committee which would accelerate development work
for Muslims and take steps to give them equal right in the development process. He said that the
government wanted to empower Muslims. The PM said in his speech that Muslims were citizens of this
country therefore special attention must be paid for their development. The central government
started its campaign to contact Muslims and purpose of the government was not political rather it
wanted to give Muslims the real development. Therefore the government was making special efforts
for their development. Naqvi further said that the government did not consider Muslims a vote bank.
They too were citizens of the country and they must be given fair chance in the development process.
Dainik Etemaad on September 28 complained that by racking up the issue of development for
Muslims the PM Narendra Modi was playing a game. He was trying to make friendship with Muslims
when he said in the national executive meeting that Muslims should not be looked upon as vote bank.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to change his face and face of the party after a long time. It is
said that this change of heart is due to forthcoming elections in the states.
Dainik Siyasat in its editorial on September 26 said that sympathy shown by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi for Muslims was to garner their votes in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The newspaper
claimed that the PM was trying to better his image among Muslims but this would not help him
anymore as Muslims were not ready to forget Gujarat riots. Moreover, the comment made by the PM
was in Kerala where Muslim voters are substantial so the BJP was trying to get Muslim votes for 2019
general elections. Perhaps this is the reason National Executive of the BJP was organized in Kerala.
Newspapers said that since independence Muslims were only used as vote banks and no right steps
have been taken for their welfare. There is a need to generate confidence among Muslims that they are
not second grade citizens and they are as much part of the country as any other citizen. Muslims must
be given their just rights and must be treated equally.
Hamara Samaj published speech of minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on October 6 on
the front page in which it was claimed that Muslims complain for not getting equal right. There is a
need to deal with this complain. Naqvi also said that India was the only democracy in the world where
minority rights are protected.
Weekly Nai Duniya on October 3 questioned that the BJP national executive talked about the same
good things that every other parties say in their conventions. But the condition of common Muslim
remains the same. There is nothing to be cheer about things said for Muslims because it is difficult to
rely on the BJP looking at its track records. The biggest problem for Muslims at the moment is
education and employment.
Sahafat in its editorial on September 27 reported criticizing statement of Prime Minister Narendra
Modi that there were differences in action and deed of the prime minister. The BJP leaders are running
a campaign to make India a Hindu nation. Nationalism of Muslims was being questioned. The
newspaper wrote, “We want to ask the PM that what is the definition of nationalism in his dictionary
and if Muslims are included in it or not?”
Sahafat on September 26 had the headline – Muslim sermon of Modi to BJP, if anyone remains
backward the country will not be developed.

Haj matters handed over to minority affairs ministry
According to Sahafat (October 3), the Centre decided that Haj issues would now be with the minority
affairs ministry instead of external affairs ministry. This is to recall that Central Haj Committee
members had been opposing to the fact that Haj matters should remain completely with the external
affairs ministry because these matters are looked after by External affairs ministry. Criticizing the
decision vice president of Central Haj Committee Sultan Ahmed said that Hajies would have problem
if the matters was dealt by three institutions. He said that Hajies used to face a lot if problem when the
matter was with external affairs ministry. Samajwadi Party MP Chaudhary Munabbar Salim also
opposed the government decision by saying that this would increase the problem for poor Muslims.
“We demanded that matters related to Haj should remain with just one ministry and dividing it
between the two ministries would complicate the matter,” said Salim. There is already corruption in
the Haj Committee and now it will go up. On the other hand minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas
Naqvi said that Haj Committee would continue working and the government would not interfere into
its working.

Waqf Board and Delhi LG at loggerheads
According to Hamara Samaj (September 29), a new controversy started between Lieutenant Governor
of Delhi Najeeb Jung and the Delhi government. This time round Delhi Waqf Board is at the middle of
contention. LG ruled appointment of 364 workers in the waqf board as illegal and instructed revenue
commissioner that since appointment of these people have been done against the government
instructions therefore they should be cancelled. There is a sock in Delhi Waqf Board due to this decision
of LG. Leader of Aam Aadmi Party and president of waqf board Amanatullah Khan alleged LG to be
anti-Muslim by saying that LG did not have any right to interfere into the waqf matters because waqf is
an autonomous organization and had the right to appoint its employees. According to the newspaper,
Delhi Waqf Board is an autonomous organization and it works under 1995 law of Parliament. Delhi
Waqf Board is under Delhi government which is captured by Aam Aadmi Party. Recently Anti
Corruption Bureau raided there and seized records taking in its possession. Amanatullah said that LG
wanted to diminish board due to political reasons.
According to a news report published in Hamara Samaj (October 7), waqf board and LG are at
loggerhead. Amanatullah said in a meeting of waqf board that the board would oppose
highhandedness of the LG. Ever since the board started campaign against illegal occupation on waqf
properties the LG started troubling us. Amanatullah Khan said that the government departments were
in possession of Rs 27 thousand crore worth waqf properties. As per another news report, two
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 7
members of the waqf board -- Mufti Aizaz Arshad Qasmi and Chaudhary Sharif -- resigned from their
posts.
According to a news report published in Inquilab on October 7, Amanatullah Khan sent a letter to
Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to stop illegal interference into the Muslim organizations.
According to the newspaper, the LG is planning to dissolve the waqf board. Amanatullah Khan wrote
in his letter sent to the PM that on one hand you talk about giving justice to Muslims and on the other
hand your LG is planning to capture mosques in Delhi.

Muslim women take refuge to Supreme Court on
triple talaq
According to Hamara Samaj (October 6), All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board president
Shaista Amber said that Muslim women wanted to end triple talaq. Addressing a press conference in
Delhi, she alleged that men were occupying Muslim Personal Law Board and they were not ready to
give justice to women. She released a model nikahnama on the occasion. On the other hand member of
Muslim Personal Law Board Kamal Farooqui alleged that Shaista Amber was opposing Sharia and
Islam. The newspaper wrote that voices against Muslim Personal Law Board were turning louder.
Shaista Amber said that triple talaq was against Quran. She said that Mullas were against women and
they were not ready to give them their rights on which prophet and Quran emphasized. Kamal
Farooqui said that Shaista Amber was twisting while sighting Quran and Hadith. As far as polygamy
was concerned, it was more prevalent among non-Muslims than Muslims. Strange thing was that
Shaista Amber was presenting wrong fact about it.
On the other hand radical Muslim leaders sticking to their stand that there should not be any interfere
into Muslim Personal Law. According to Akhbar Mashriq (October 4), the central government made it
clear that it would not interfere into Muslim Personal Law. This was informed to deputy chief minister
of Telangana Mahmood Ali by Union Home minister Rajnath Singh. The chief minister said while
speaking to journalists, “I told the home minister about the concern of Muslims across the country that
how the government was interfering in the matter of Muslim Personal Law.”
Akhbar Mashriq in its editorial on October 5 congratulated Mahmood Ali for telling the feeling of
Muslims to the BJP leaders. The newspaper said that Muslim Personal Law was recognized in 1937 and
Muslim won't be separated from it because if Muslim Personal Law was changed their independent
identity would be changed. Earlier Mukul Rohatgi indicated that the Modi government was in favour
of implementing Common Civil Code. It is good that Union Home minister Rajnath Singh clarified it to
Mahmood Ali about the government not interfering into the matters of Muslim Personal Law as it does
not want to indulge in any controversy. The government is treading very cautiously in view of
Assembly elections in several states. India is a religious country and everyone has the right to behave as
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 8
per their faith. No one and not any section demanded implementing Common Civil Code such
demands are raised only by the political leaders who want to polarize votes in its guise. The Centre
must withdraw its case from the Supreme Court.
According to Sahafat (October 3), addressing a seminar on triple talaq former justice B. K. Iyar said that
marriage and divorce in Islam was the best and there was no need to change them. Principal of Jamia
Ashrafia Mubarakpur Mohammad Nizamuddin Rizvi said that Islamic Sharia made arrangement for
triple talaq but later on women could get written divorce as well. They can ask for two-three talaq but
they cannot ask for the right to divorce. There is no difference of opinion among different streams of
Islam. He said that if talaq was pronounced thrice in one go then relation between husband and wife
ends. Representative of Muslim Personal Law Board Kamal Farooqui said that the Supreme Court
asked for Centre's opinion on triple talaq but attitude of the Centre was anti-Islamic. So Muslim
Personal Law Board would try to protect interest of Muslims under the provisions of constitution. He
said that it had been made clear in the constitution that no government could interfere into Islamic
Personal Law. Therefore no court has the right to interfere into the matter.

Journalists from India speak the language of Pakistan
According to Chauthi Duniya (September 26), some secularists journalists have started spreading
canard about Kashmir. Editor of Weekly Chauthi Duniya Santosh Bhartiya published a report on the
front page with the headline – Dear Prime Minister this is the truth of Kashmir. Santosh Bhartiya
claimed, “I and two other journalists Ashok Wankhede and Abhay Kumar Dubey visited Kashmir and
we all cried looking at the situation of Kashmir.” Bhartiya alleged that information provided to the PM
about the Kashmir was sent on instructions of officials. They are far from being true. So you must make
some arrangements to get to the bottom of the truth.
Bhartiya said, “I am very worried after visiting Kashmir, we have control over land because our Army
is there but people of Kashmir are not with us. There is anger against Indian system from the age group
between 6 year old and 80 year old people. They are so angry that they don't want to speak to people
associated with Indian system. They are ready to face killings. So I am stating the truth that to stop
killings in this century, please play your role.” He further writers, “Our Army is nurturing this feeling
that whosoever speaks against Kashmir, they should be killed and this is the way to end separatist
movement.” “What the administration is calling separatist movement is actually mass movement. If
from 6-year-old to 80-year-old are calling azadi then we must realize that there was some mistake
committed in past 60 years and they were done deliberately. The history has given you the
responsibility to correct them. We hope that you would reconsider the situation of Kashmir to decide
your Kashmir policy,” said Bharatiya. According to Bharatiya, businessman, students, civil society
people, author, journalists, people from political parties and the government officials feel that
administration committed a big mistake forcing every Kashmiri to stand up against Indian system.
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 9
Santosh Bhartiya claimed that this time round Bakrid was not celebrated, new cloths were not worn, no
sacrifice was made, is not it a tight slap on the faces of such people who were swearing by democracy?
What happened to Kashmiries that they stopped celebrating festivals? The same Kashmir that voted in
huge number in 2014 is not ready to utter a single sympathetic world. “I am telling you this situation
because you are Prime Minister of the entire country so you must come out with a solution,” said
Bharatiya.
Santosh Bhartiya added fuel to fire by saying, “People in Kashmir were living in their houses by
lighting one bulb in the evening. It is believed in most of the households that there are so much gloom,
so many killings and over 10 thousand people are injured by pallet guns and 500 lost their vision in
such a situation how they could be happy by lighting four bulbs. I also saw in Kashmir that how stones
are placed around 8 in the morning and the same is removed in the evening.” They throw stone at the
army during the day time and sleep at night with fear that they might be picked up by the army
forcefully while asleep. Such situation was not even during British rule. Bharatiya further said that
people of Kashmir believe that the deal with government of India and Maharaj Hari Singh of Kashmir
clearly states that Article 370 would remain till any decision on future was taken through plebiscite.
People of Kashmir forgotten this plebiscite in 3-4 years but when Pt Nehru got Sheikh Abdullah
arrested then suspicion cropped up among Kashmiries about India. Abdullah was released from jail by
Indira Gandhi in 1975 and made CM of Kashmir but none of the demands made by him was fulfilled.
This has hurt Kashmiries. The Congress government sitting in Delhi considered Kashmir its colony
and toppled the Farooq Abdullah government but this caused hatred against India among Kashmiries.
Before you became the PM, no government in Delhi generated faith among Kashmiries that they too
are part of the country the way other states are. An entire generation born after 1952 had not heard the
name of democracy and did not enjoy the fruit of democracy. They just saw military, paramilitary,
bullets and deaths. They are unaware that how people live in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and
Maharashtra. Kashmiries don't have right to enjoy fruit of democracy. In the ocean of democracy they
have their share of guns, tanks, pallet guns and possible massacre.
This journalist claimed that the freedom movement of Kashmir had reached to villages and
everywhere there were Pakistani flags. When the team visiting Kashmir asked people of Kashmir they
said that they did not want to go to Pakistan but since you are cynical about Pakistan therefore people
here raise Pakistani flag. This journalist also wrote that Mr. Prime Minister, people of Kashmir want to
decide their fate themselves. They must be asked that if they want to go with Pakistan; want to live with
India; or want independence. They want plebiscite in the entire region. Why did such a situation arise?
The journalist also said that the amount allotted to Kashmir never reaches there. The money promised
by the PM during the flood did not reach them. Therefore Kashmiries want freedom.
Mr. Prime Minister there is a question in my mind, is Pakistan really so big that it could give Rs 500 to
every stone palter? Is Indian administration so poor that it failed to catch anyone doing so? Kashmiries
also complained that some communal elements are instigating them. Advocating Huriyat leaders,
Bharatiya said that so much moral pressure Hurriat leaders have that whatever calendar they make
that reaches everyone and people follow that colander. When they want market closes, when they
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 10
want it is open. Security guards don't patrol after 6. Corp commander in Kashmir told the government
not to involve them in political battle by saying that Army was not for civilians but for enemies. This
journalist alleged that some people in a planned conspiracy wanted to declare every Kashmiri a traitor
and they wished to go to Pakistan but this is not true. Bhartiya also claimed that there was a deal with
Kashmiries that India won't interfere into the matters except external affairs, Army and currency but it
is continuously interfering from the past 65 years and even the police have gone against India.
Syed Ali Shah Gilani's son-in-law and controversial journalist Iftikhar Gilani accepted in the
Hyderabad-based newspaper Dainik Munsif on October 2 that these three journalist visited Kashmir
on his instructions. Gilani claimed that one of the journalists Santosh Bhartiya was a close associate of a
BJP leader. Gilani mentioned some of the points of Bhartiya's letter to the PM in his write up. He said
that my concern was towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He does not want Modi to be
remembered as the person to have kept Kashmir with India through massacre. Perhaps this would be
the sad history. Narendra Modi should win over heart of Kashmiries and fulfill such promises that
were made in past 60 years. Gilani said that Narendra Modi must take action on letters of these
journalists because if people of Kashmir were not with what would India do with the land only?
Comment: Santosh Bhartiya was a Hindi journalist but he was brought in politics by V P Singh. These
days he is editor of a newspaper managed by an industrialist. Relation of Abhay Kumar Dubey and
Ashok Wankhede was known to all. Gilani is son-in-law of president of Huriat Conference of Ali Shah
Gilani. He was sent to Tihad jail on treason charges but was released on political pressure. Once he was
editor of a Pakistan-based newspaper in Delhi. At present, he is working with a Mumbai-based
newspaper. The question is if Santosh Bhartiya and two other journalists were sent there on instigation
of Pakistan so after coming back they can unleash campaign against Indian Army and administration?
Is not the letter written by Santosh Bhartiya gave instrument in the hands of Pakistan against India?
These are such questions on which there is a need for serious contemplation.

Saudi Arabia government takes up austerity measures
According to Inquilab (September 28), ruler of Saudi Arabia Shah Salman issued instruction banning
not to give jobs to foreigners in the less important departments for one year. According to Dainik Saudi
Gazette, this decision has also been taken to cut 20 per cent salary of the ministers and 15 per cent cut in
transport and lodging announce. The Saudi Arab government banned providing government vehicle
to senior government officials for one year. Ministers can use mobile and telephone up to 1000 Riyal, in
case bill exceeds, they themselves will have to pay. The government has also decided not to give annual
increment for this year and during the annual vacation monthly transportation allowance would not
be given. Besides that leaves have been reduced from 42 to 36 and in most of the departments news
recruitments have been banned for one year. The Saudi Arab government has increased visa fee for the
people coming to Saudi Arabia. This is to recall that ever since oil prices tumbled in 2014 across the
world, Saudi Arabia incurred heavy losses. Even the government reduced subsidy on several items.
The government ordered to look for new source of income instead of depending on oil.
According to Inquilab (September 24), presiding over a programme organized by Raza Academy on
the formation day of Saudi Arabia its president Maulana Syed Noori alleged that in 1924 Ibn Saud from
Majjad forcefully captured Mecca and Medina. He said that Wahabi rulers were enemies of Islam and
they destroyed graves of Prophet Mohammad and their relatives. This action was opposed across the
world and a delegation of Khilaphat Committee was sent to Saudi Arabia. The delegation was
assured by the Saudi Arabia that Mecca and Medina would be handed over to Hijad but this
promise was not fulfilled. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi said that the new tax on Haj pilgrims was
anti-Islamic.

Terrorists failed to blow up oil pipeline
According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (September 21), security personals of Saudi Arabia arrested
three persons belonging to terrorist organisation Islamic State. These people were trying to blast the
biggest pipeline of the country. It is said that the arrested persons belonged to Syria. This pipeline
supplies oil to the gulf countries. This pipeline supplies 50-70 lakh barrel oil to refineries.

Plan to send delegation of Islamic nations to Kashmir
According to Hamara Samaj (September 22), Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoðan told Pakistan
prime minister Nawaz Sharif after their meeting that they were sending a delegation of Islamic nations
to Kashmir so that the real situation could be known. Nawaz Sharif also met Japanese president in New
York and demanded that the way India was causing atrocities in Kashmir Valley, the Japanese
government must put pressure to stop that. Sharif also met foreign minister of the US John Kerry and it
is said that Kerry expressed concern over the attack on Indian Army base and he also expressed
concern over the continuing violence in Kashmir.
According to Inquilab (September 21), organization of Islamic countries demanded from India that
they must immediately stop atrocities against people demanding freedom in Kashmir and problem of
Kashmir should be solved as per wishes of Kashmiri people and United Nations resolution. General
Secretary of IOC Iyad bin Amin Madani criticized action of Indian Army in Kashmir. He said that
situation in Kashmir was deteriorating very fast and support of Islamic nations was with Pakistan.
According to Hindustan Express (September 20), president of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar
Farooq demanded from Islamic Organization OIC general secretary Iyad bin Amin Madani and
Kashmir Contact Group to immediately intervene into the matters of Kashmir. Hurriyat spokesperson
said that Mirwaiz was invited to participate in a meeting in New York but he could not go as he was
placed under house arrest. Mirwaiz in his letter alleged Indian Army for atrocities against Kashmiries
and demanded plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. This is to recall that earlier also ministers of OIC had
announced in Pakistan that 59 countries of the organization of Muslim countries are with Pakistan on
Kashmir issue. They leveled serious charges on the government of India.

Indians in muddle in Saudi Arabia
According to Munsif (October 2), economic crisis in Saudi Arabia affected people of Asian origin
miserably and thousands of poor workers belonging to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Philippines
have been rendered jobless. They have not been given any old salary. So it has become difficult for them
not only to return India but feed themselves. Recently 40 people belonging to Bihar returned India. Due
to most of the ongoing projects getting closed in Saudi Arabia, heavy retrenchment is underway. As
per the rules of Saudi Arabia, employees from the foreign countries cannot take up a new job without
permission of his previous employer. So they are dying hungry. There are 30 lakh Indian laborers in
Saudi Arabia and most of them are jobless now. It is also alleged in a news report published in this
India Policy Foundation q October 1-15, 2016 q 13
newspaper that a residence of Hyderabad Anjum Fatima was sent to Medina as domestic help by a
Mumbai-based agent. Husband of this woman alleged that she was promised to be given 1500 riyal per
month but from the past four months she was not given a single penny. Husband of this woman lodged
a written complain in Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia but they refused to interfere into the matter. The
woman does not have a single penny to come back to India. The person in Mumbai who had sent her
Saudi Arabia is demanding 5000 riyal to bring her back to India. Fatima's husband alleged that her life
was under threat.

Iran fires at the Pakistani border
According to Inquilab (October 4), there had been clashes at Iran and Pakistan border. As per a
Pakistani website, in the border area of Mashkeel, two Pakistani citizens Abdul Wahid and Nazir
Ahmed got injured in the firing of Iranian Army. Looking at their serious condition, they were shifted
to Central Hospital Quetta. This is to recall that there had been protest at the Iran-Pakistan border
against Pakistan.

Protest over decision of handing over two
islands to Egypt
According to Inquilab (October 1), Egyptian government decided that two non-populated islands to
