History of our story/conversation groups

“We don’t want to teach the story. We want the story to motivate people to hear their own voice.”

-- Sarah Hirschman, People & Stories founder● People and Stories video (5 min)

● Based on Paulo Friere’s theory of Liberating Education

● http://www.peopleandstories.net/ for partnering or grants

The basics (once you have a group):

BEFORE PROGRAM:

● Find a short story that you can read in 10-30 minutes, and practice reading it.

● Develop questions to encourage conversation

DURING THE PROGRAM:

● Read the story to group (aloud) - giving everyone a copy of the story so they can follow along.

● Discuss the story

Now it’s time for a story!
