THE RECORD October 2014 VOLUME 53

Don’t Miss Out on This! “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.” 2 Cor 5:20 “For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20 Have you ever wondered: (after the fact) How could I have given a witness (or better witness) to that family member, that co-worker, that friend at school, to that Jehovah Witness at my door, to that Muslim family living in my neighborhood? I hope you have wondered such things… and if not I pray that you start wondering such things, praying about it, and searching for resource helps. Well…Guess What? A resource help is coming to your backyard! (West Fargo anyway is close enough). On Oct 4th International Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Gregory Seltz, will be at St Andrew Lutheran Church in West Fargo to lead the Family Outreach Event. Such an opportunity so close to us comes around only once in a great while and maybe not again in your lifetime!!! So please don’t shrug it off. Go back to the start of this article—Pastor Seltz will be here to equip us to be ambassadors for Christ, to represent Jesus in our daily walk of life at home, work, school, neighborhood and community. Pastor Seltz is a “down to earth” motivating and inspirational speaker (see the worship page to read just how worldwide his voice is heard on “The Lutheran Hour”). There are always many things to do and many excuses can be made (some understandable) for not being present for this Family Outreach Event—I urge and encourage you to Not Miss It! A program is scheduled for the whole family: childcare for ages 0-5yrs. Area DCE’s have planned programs for ages 6-12yrs and for grades 7-12. Pastor Seltz will work with the adults. Our Redeemer is offering to pay for half of your registration! Includes supper so register NOW by either calling 218-287-8049 or going online www.ourredeemermoorhead.org An added plus for us: Rev Seltz will preach and lead Bible class at our church on October 5th!

ORLC Tshirts Be a community witness by wearing the NEW witness shirts that are for sale for just $7.00. Shirts for children can be ordered by Oct 15. Adult shirts are here to purchase. We wore them for “Out of the Pews”. But wear them in the community and to community events as well—it produces a visual witness and at times generates verbal opportunities. Wear them at our Annual Turkey Supper! We have not had an ORLC t-shirt for about twelve years so buy one and join our Witness Team!

“This ‘n That” from Pastor Bruce

Concordia Parade—Oct 11th at 11:00am. Generally we are the only church that participates so this is a good opportunity to shine forth the Love of Christ. We pass out brochures, candy, and smile and say things like “Jesus Loves You!” This is a very easy way to witness to show forth Christ’s Love and Presence. Come and be a part of the Fun-Witness-Fellowship. Bring the whole family.

Former ORLC DCE Guy Roberts (2000-2004) has accepted the Call to serve at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. The installation service will be on Oct 19th at 3pm. Pastor Guy has given me the honor and privilege to deliver the message which I’ve entitled (from personal experience!) “What’s that ‘Guy’ Doing?” Members of ORLC are welcome to attend.

Also on Oct 19th at 3pm is the Annual Lutheran’s for Life Dessert Banquet being held at Triumph Lutheran Church. Theme is: “What is the Value of Life?” Guest Speaker is Janne Myrdal the ND State Director for Concerned Women for America. Wish I could attend this too, only God can be omni present!

Wonderful responses in September by ORLC members to special needs and interests:

Door offering for Lutheran Heritage Foundation (when Pastor Lutz was here) $1600+ For Pastor Phil Meyer who has ALS $700+ For our local Good Samaritan Fund $600+ For Special Pastor’s Conference offering for Student Aid and The Sower’s Fund $600+

Thank You ORLC members for your heartfelt prayers and financial support.

Special Study “Financial Wisdom for A Lifetime!” will be offered Oct 12th – Nov 9th. We bi-annually offer Dave Ramsey’s awesome course. Well this is a mini-version covering some of those topics all from a spiritual basis. Topics covered will be:

1. Gaining a Proper Perspective toward Money 2. Seeing Money through God’s Eyes 3. Giving Generously 4. Planning and Saving for Your Future 5. Reducing Spending and Borrowing

I look forward to seeing the Spirit produced results from this study! It will be offered in the Dining Hall and in the TNT study group in the Prayer room. Annual Turkey Supper will be Friday, Oct 24th. It takes a whole lot of ORLC volunteers to make this event happen. So don’t wait to be asked, check out the Ministry Action Board and sign up! If you have an ORLC t-shirt wear it for the supper!

A wonderful servant/witness event was held on Sept 21st for “Out of the Pews” – Thanks to All who participated. And thanks to the organizational efforts of our Board of Servant Ministry. A job well done by All!

THE RECORD October 2014 VOLUME 53

Seresahewrap Have you heard of the word “seresahewrap”? Do you know what it

means? Actually it is a new word that I made up just for the October Record. So I want to take a moment to tell you what it means and how it is important to your life. The word actually is six steps about how we get the Bible into ourselves. So you could call it the word in the WORD! Here is what it means: ~Mark Noennig

Se = See it re = Read it sa = Say it he = Hear it wr = Write it ap = Apply it Movie: “God’s Not Dead”

Have you seen it yet? Would you like to see it again? I’ve seen it three times and I am excited to see it yet again. We will be showing the movie here at Our Redeemer on Sunday, Oct 26th at 2pm. Bring along your family, friends, and neighbors. It is a great film that teaches us about living out our faith in an unchristian world. So mark the date: Sunday, October 26th!!

Bold Witnesses for Life—A Bold Witnesses Conference for Pastors and Laity Speaker: Rev Dr James Lamb Topics:

• Bioethics • Abortion • Post Abortion Syndrome • Care of the Elderly

Saturday, Oct 18th, 2014 St Andrew Lutheran Church 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Fee includes lunch—now until Oct 14th $25. Oct 15-18th $35. Register online: www.regonline.com/boldwitnessforlifeconference For more information contact Mr Bill Sharpe: 701-293-9001 or email: [email protected] or Pastor Mark Chepulis: 701-265-4408 or email [email protected]

These six simple steps are ways that we can saturate our lives with God’s Word. Try it and see how the Holy Spirit works the Word into your life.

History Teacher: Why was George Washington standing in the bow of his boat as the army crossed the Delaware? Student: Because he knew if he sat down he would have to row.

Oct Newsletter Articles Due Oct 17th!

I’ve been advised that we should have one or two co-coordinators to work with us “just in case” something would prevent Dennis and/or I from preparing for the sheltering at Our Redeemer in January 2015. I understand most Churches are already doing this. We are both fine, but would welcome sharing this project with caring team mates.

We have been very blessed to be part of this project for the last three years, but have decided 2015 will be our last year as coordinators. However, we will be faithful volunteers as this project continues into 2016 and beyond.

In you would like to share in this effort as co-coordinators, please call Francy Winkels @ 218-790-4412. We will prayerfully wait for your call. Thank You.

Do you scrapbook? Do you make cards? Would you like to do more of either one of these or learn more about them? Join us in the Dining Hall on Friday and Saturday, Oct 3rd & 4th for fun, fellowship and/or completed projects. (You are welcome if you need a place to do another craft also). We share tools, ideas, and there’s not a critic in the bunch! If you have any questions, please call Val Cossette at 789-7315.

This may seem a bit early to bring up Churches Sheltering the Homeless Project, but some things take time to accomplish.

NEWS FROM THE DIRECTOR: Hello from the ORCCC! We have had many changes in the last month. We sent many children off to school and many children have changed rooms. We have new teachers, our college students have returned and I (Angela) am new to the Directors position. The board is busy putting together our fundraiser for the Fall, so there will be more information coming on that! We are in search of a lead preschool teacher and also 2-3 part-time employees. If you know of anyone in search of a job please let me know (218-233-8270 or [email protected]). Please keep our center in your prayers during the coming months that we can all weather these changes. Thank you.
