• What is the Qu’ran?

• The Qu’ran is the Holy book for Muslims and gives Muslims guidelines for their life. One of these guidelines is how to behave around other people. The Qu’ran tells us:

“Be kind to your parents and the relatives and the orphans and those in need and speak nicely to people”

• It is written in Arabic, the original language which it was written in when it was first revealed to Muhammed (pbuh) in 610 CE by the Angel Gabriel (Angel Jabril).

• The Qu’ran is written in Rhyme and Rhythm when read in Arabic.

• How long did it take for the Qu’ran to be completed?

It took 23 years for the Qu’ran to be completed.• Have there been any changes made to the

Qu’ran?

No, the Qu’ran has stayed the same for over 1400 years.

• How many parts does the Qu’ran have?The Qu’ran has 30 parts and 114 chapters. • Is there any special way I need to handle the Qu’ran?When you wish to read the Qu’ran in Arabic you need to

make sure you have made Wudu, this is a special way to clean yourself.

• Do you have to read the Qu’ran in Arabic? It is recommended to learn and read the Qu’ran in Arabic

as it is seen as a very good deed and Muslims believe they will get reward from Allah (God) if they do, but you can read it in any language to be able to get the meaning.

The First Chapter from the Qu’ran is the shortest and is one of the most important chapters of the Q’uran. It is called Surah (chapter) Al – Fatihah.

• ِبْسِم اّل الّرْحمـَِن الّرِحي

(Bismillāhi r-ra māni r-ra īmḥ ḥ )• اْلَحْمُد ّل َرّب اْلَعاَلِمين

(Al amdu lillāhi rabbi l-'ālamīnḥ )• الّرْحمـِن الّرِحيم

(Ar ra māni r-ra īm)ḥ ḥ • َمـاِلِك َيْوِم الّدين

(Māliki yawmi d-dīn )• ِإّياك َنْعُبُد وِإّياَك َنْسَتِعين

(Iyyāka na'budu wa iyyāka nasta'īn)• اهِدَنــــا الّصَراَط الُمسَتِقيَم

(Ihdinā - irā ṣ ṣ ṭ al mustaqīm )

Guide us to the straight path;• ِصَراَط اّلِذيَن َأنَعمَت َعَليِهْم َغيِر الَمغُضوِب َعَليِهْم َوَل

الّضاّلين

( irā al-la īna an'amta 'alayhim ġayril maġ ūbi Ṣ ṭ ḏ ḍ'alayhim walā āllīnḍ ḍ )

Translation in English.• In the name of Allah, the Most

Gracious, the Most Merciful:• All Praise is due to Allah, Lord of the

Alamin. • The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.• Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.• You alone we worship, and You alone

we ask for help.• Guide us to the straight path;• The way of those on whom You have

bestowed your grace, not (the way) of those who have earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray.
