R.E.
Year 1
'In Year 1, we began the year by thinking about the concept of ‘Belonging’. We
thought about things that belong to us and groups we belong to. We then moved
on to looking at a range of stories from different faiths. We read the story of
Rama and Sita for Diwali, the parable of Zaccheaus and the story of the
Nativity to understand Christmas.'
Year 2
Year 2 began with the pupils learning about ‘Inspirational People’, where pupils
learnt about inspirational people around them and those based in the key regions
such as Jesus (peace be upon him) in Christianity, the Prophet Muhammed
(peace be upon him) in Islam and Guru Nanak in Sikhism. Another important
figure the pupils learnt about was their class hero and why their class hero is a
good role model for them to imitate.
In Bint Abee Bakr the pupils concentrated on how Aishah Bint Abee Bakr (may
Allah be pleased with her) was a strong, learned teacher.
In Ibn Abbas the pupils learnt about how Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with
him) was an early Islamic scholar.
In Ibn Zayd the pupils learnt how he was an intelligent and inquisitive companion
of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
In the second half term the pupils learnt about the key symbols of Christianity,
Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. After this, the pupils studied Sikhism and its core
beliefs within the modern world.
Year 3
In Year 3, we began the first half-term by thinking about ‘Inspirational
Individuals’. We reflected upon this topic on a personal, global and religious
level. We discussed how parents inspire their children, people working around us
inspire us, Jesus (peace be upon him) inspires Christians, Muhammad (peace be
upon him) inspires Muslims and how the lives of our class heroes, Ibn Maalik and
Ibn Ali (peace be upon them), inspire us every day!
In the second half-term, we moved on to exploring religious symbols- Why are
they so important? What reminders do they give to people of faith? Do they tell
a story? We looked at a variety of symbols from three faiths:
Christianity- The Cross, The Dove, The Fish and A Christingle
Judaism- The six symbols on the Seder plate, Star of David, The Kippah, The
Menorah and The Mezuzah
Islam- The Crescent Moon and Star and The Colour Green
We really enjoyed reading the Story of Passover and the First Christingle too!
